  • By contrast to the rest of the year (when a new post each week is best because it works for end daters), weekly advents tend to be posted once and bumped weekly. Is that because a lot of end daters change tactics during the advents and tend to look at A posts earlier than usual, so it ends up being easier for everyone to just bookmark/keep track of one thread than looking/finding a new post for each week?

Just want to set things up in whichever way is easiest, so no-one misses out :)

Week 3 is here for anyone who hasn't been entering so far:

Weekly... there used to be. A weekly thread similar to the daily thread that at least some of us end daters made use of to find any weekly comps that would be bumped each week. The weekly thread was done away with so now all weekly comps need posted every week so that they don’t get missed by anyone.

The section of the advents thread for weekly comps means that there is a place to track for new and bumped threads even if you usually comp by end date.

So it’s not so much that end daters change strategy, using the advents thread is just like using the daily and now extinct weekly and monthly threads the rest of the year. It’s that many compers who usually ignore the ongoing threads change their strategy to utilise a. Advent thread if it’s available, whether by using the updated links in each section of first posts or by tracking comps posted at the back of the thread. I never did understand why doing this for weekly comps was an issue but The majority thought it was too much effort and voted to scrap the weekly and other ongoing threads.
  • Because I spotted the plea to comment on this thread rather than the other poll I’m posting this here.

But not if you combine B and C options. There are clearly more votes to have an Advent thread
Like I said, it's set up to ensure there is no Advent thread as B & C are to have some kind of Advent thread.

This! Options 2 and 3 need added together and counted as a vote for having an advent thread. The highest vote between options 2 and 3 could then be be used to decide whether expel maintain sections of updated first posts or it’s just a thread started and links added to it.

No being in the majority at the minute is not accurate and there are volunteers now to maintain first posts.

Most Advents are a minority interest and the combined thread was used by an even smaller number.
But if there are people who want to maintain a thread I don't see an issue with that and don't really consider that votes for "no thread" should have any real bearing if there are people prepared to run one.

I agree with MainBlue, even though I voted for no thread. B & C should be combined. Then it just comes down to if volunteers come forward to manage it.

I voted for no thread, but obviously it's not ideal.

I have comped little this year, but always do the advents even if I've not much time or success.

But one person doing the advent thread is time-consuming and unrealistic in this busy world.

The original vote that cornishpasty set up didn't include an option for no advent at all, that was added as a member asked for it, which is why she had to start another poll. The original idea for the poll was to see whether people wanted a traditional thread like we have had for the last few years, or a simpler version that didn't need manning as no one had volunteered at that point to do the whole thing as in previous years. I think the "no advent at all" option has confused matters as others have already said.

I think it boils down to firstly if anyone wants to run the thread. I see that a few people have said they would run part of it, but when we have had previous discussion about splitting the thread up into web/fb/tw etc, it has always been a blanket no as there is too much crossover with comps across several platforms, and being on web one day, fb the next etc. Posting a multi platform advent would also be a pain in my opinion, as once posted on the main board, would potentially need posting on another 3 or 4 threads to capture web/fb/tw/ig, which with the posting limit of 1 minute (i think?) on the board would actually take a fair bit of time, especially for the big name posters who would be posting a lot of these comps per day and then having to cross post.

Secondly, as already mentioned, is it worth running a traditional thread when it seems minimal people use the front page now that the A: format is used anyway?

I have posted over on the other thread, but now i have seen that is voting only i'll post over here.

If we do have an advent thread i will be happy to volunteer if it is separated into sections such as Facebook, Twitter, Online etc. I know someone else also volunteered also!

  • Correct me if my memory is wrong please.

Multi platform advents usually get added to the section of the advent thread(s) that is for multi platform entry possibilities I think. This would include gleam/rafflecopter and then any others that switch platform from day to day I would think?

Whether Multiple posts at the start of one thread or a new thread for each section my suggestions would be

Web only a-z which iirc usually takes two posts
    Fb one or two posts
    Tw one or two posts
    Insta
Pinterest and snapchat and any other less used social media
    Email only entry
    Weekly
Random entry times ie. not daily but more frequent than weekly

Or this thread gets moved to main and we all make our own bookmarks however we like

Yep, that's pretty much how it usually is. However this year MSE seem to have gone for an utter car crash for Advents - this despite having volunteers to run / help / contribute with an Advent thread.
It just seems very self-centred to have the Advents hidden away. This despite more people voting to have an Advent thread, but even the Comp board guide (I Love Comps or something like that) is refusing to acknowledge that more people want an Advent thread than don't want an Advent thread.
I am quite saddened by the sheer selfishness and greed by many users. So much for it being a community.
