3Pay Nokia 7600 - factory resetting

Options
For anyone wondering what all the fuss is about regarding the 3Pay Nokia 7600, why it needs a factory reset to work as a 2G phone, and where they can go to get this done, I've put together an article on my site explaining the issue and listing a couple of reputable* online outlets who will be able to do this for you at minimal cost.

You can find my article here.

I also have an email address of the guy who did mine. Its a little cheeper than the one on muttons site and he was recomended by a good freind. He has a very fast turn around. I sent mine on monday and had it back wed. He is a long standing and respectable member on a BST forum I use.

email me if you would like his address

Update ....... I have just seen his latest post and he is offering the unlocking and reflashing service for £3 + delivery on top. He is based in London.

Well, that makes a choice of 3 guys with recommendations then - I'm sure a few more recommendations will be forthcoming in the fullness of time. :)

Incidentally, for those of you who have to send your phones away, return postage will be approx. £5 anyway so that puts debs' guy on a par with my cheapest (who includes return special delivery in his price). That said, any of the three sound good to me.

    regards,

Yup...that would make him a wee bit cheaper.

    I'm confused by this.

I unlocked my 7600 using one of the fee tools online. Checked that my T-mobile and O2 SIMs worked, and was delighted.

Read the messages that said 2g SIMs would not work even after unlocking - mine did.

Read that after unlocking the phone will not work again on 3 - it does.

Read that it will not work on Vodaphone & Orange because they have 3G networks of there own. Took my daughters SIM (Vodaphone) and tried it - worked. I was indoors so went outside to make sure I could make a call where 3G network was available. Made another call successfully (3g icon was present).

Also tried to access "3" services, not expecting it to work - it didn't, but said something aong the lines that the account was not set up for GPRS.

So what is going on? Anyone else have experience of using the unlocked phone on Vodaphone or Orange network? I was thinking of moving to Vodaphone, but am reluctant to in case my phone doesn't work.

OK, I tried similar yesterday. It's unlocked without factory reset. On a 3 sim, doing a network search manually I got on screen the following info.

    3 (3G)
    Orange(3G/2G)
    T-mobile (2G)
    Vodafone(2G)

    With a 3 sim I get 3 3G
    With an O2 sim I get O2 2G
    With a T-mobile sim I get T-mobile 2G
With an Orange sim I get nothing and a manual network search brings up 3 (3G) and Orange (3G)

Which pretty much confirms the stuff mentioned by RM that if the network isn't transmitting a 3G signal nearby you can get away with it, when it's rolle dout by Voda/Orange it won't work without the reset
