If I owed them money I'd send them a cheque, otherwise I'd wait for the SoLR and check that my credit had been transferred successfully.

This is in my opinion really bad advice.

Why should anyone pay money to a company that has gone bust, they owe 4m to Ofgem plus loads in tax.

My advice to people is don't pay a penny!

    Not sure if serious?

But if you are, then This is in my opinion really bad advice.

When a company goes bust, it's because it doesn't have the funds to service it's debts.

You are still expected to pay your debts!

If you don't, then expect the administrator/liquidator to pursue you for them. Their role is to try to get the best for those who are owed money by the failed company.

How you pay is unimportant, just that you do pay what you owe!

I'm not an energy thief, so I expect to pay for all the energy I've used in accordance with the contract I signed. Strictly speaking the DD shouldn't be cancelled, but knowing from posts on this board how slow and difficult it can be to credit refunded, I prefer to prevent such problems arising by settling up immediately the news breaks. This ensures that the final balance is only a nominal amount. It worked well when GB Energy went bust, I cancelled the DD, paid online or posted a cheque and then relaxed.

As for any alleged misdemeanors by an energy company, that's not my direct concern, and two wrongs don't make a right. Refusing to pay an outstanding balance means either that innocent parties would have to foot the bill (individual investors, pension funds etc) or that there would be hassle from debt collectors and credit reference agencies.

    You cannot be serious !

Yes, pay any debt owing WHEN an accurate invoice is produced - If the company can not supply a clear & accurate bill, the consumer does not know if he/she is being charged correctly.

The administrators have a duty to collect any/all debts owing, but they also have a responsibility to ensure that the monies they are seeking is an accurate reflection of what is owed. I for one, will be paying anyone until such time as I receive an accurate bill.

Toto, on their last "bill", claim that I have used 8000 (100s of cubic feet) units of gas, which they say converts to some 350KWh. The difference between stated meter readings shown on their bill is 10.
Whilst I don't dispute the 10 units of consumption, my meter reads in cubic metres, not feet. The readings given are estimates based on an old meter that Solarplicity removed earlier in the year (Toto had used the new meter details on their first inaccurate bill).

    8000 (100s cubic feet) is actually some 252,000KWh, and 10m³ is 111KWh - A huge difference !
If the administrators wish to pursue this through the courts, a judge will take one look at the numbers and tell them to go back to school.

It is not about the money (10m³ is only some £4), but the principle - If they have messed up my bill, how many others are being incorrectly charged.

EDF will take over w.e.f. Sunday 27 October.

    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/toto-energy-customers-your-questions-new-supplier-edf-energy

"EDF Energy will honour customers’ credit balances for both current and past customers of Toto Energy who are owed money, and former customers of Solarplicity who Solarplcity transferred to Toto Energy earlier this year (and who have not yet had their credit balance returned).

"EDF will pay any outstanding credit to former customers of Solarplicitiy that were transferred to Toto Energy. It may take some time, but EDF will be in touch regarding any owed credit balances to former Solarplicity customers that were moved to Toto and have since switched with an owed credit balance."

Thanks for that bit of news. Prompted me to take meter readings and start getting paperwork in order.
I can see Toto providing EDF and the administrators with a whole bunch of incorrect data about customers. I doubt Toto cleared up the mess with my account before calling in the receivers. I dare say, there are a load more Solarplicity/Toto customers who have been billed incorrectly, and now EDF are left to sort it out.

so EDF will be my new supplier, and on their page for Toto customers they have an FAQ for questions "Will my tariff stay the same" and "Will my bills go up" which they answer with "Your prices will be in your Welcome Pack" which is a crappy answer, meaning that they'll charge an arm and a leg for gas and electricity.

since I can't switch from them for some time until this whole mess is resolved, it means I'm effectively forced into whatever price they want. how long does this process roughly take, aka, how long until I'm moved away from them? :\

As soon as you get the welcome pack, initiate a switch to another supplier. Hopefully, the process will take less than a month.

And yes, you will probably be paying an inflated unit price & standing charge unless EDF have a comparable tariff.

When you move in to your new home, you can pick which ever supplier you like. The energy supplier at your old (existing) address will not be following you. It will be for the next occupant to sort out if he/she doesn't want to be with EDF.

The only issue you will have is ensuring that you have been correctly billed for energy consumption whilst with Toto and then with EDF for the next couple of weeks. Take a couple of good photographs of the meters showing the readings on your final day, and you should be covered if there is any dispute on final readings.
