Why i HATE renters, another rant!

Just moved into my 4th rented house over last 12 years. I used to be a home owner but long story short, I now rent.

I have 3 kids living with me and am a single parent (father). When I recently moved out of my 3rd house, the neighbours either side both commented that I've been great and they will miss me.

I've always had great references from landlords and full deposit returned. Houses have been left in better condition than when I moved in (blitzed the garden and decorated the last one only to have the landlord sell it after I'd been there 18 months). I actually lived next door to my landlord in my 2nd rented house and used to trim their hedges for them. The other neighbour said he hoped to get equally good neighbours when I left (I often lent him power tools and kept an eye on his house when he was away).

Please don't generalise about renters, we are not all the same. I'm house proud, noise conscious and make an effort to get to know all my neighbours.
  • It is harsh to tar 'renters' with the same brush because of some bad experiences.

I've been a homeowner for almost 5 years. Either side of me are rented properties. One side was a woman and her son, she didn't work and caused a rat infestation which eventually got solved when she was evicted/moved by the council when she allowed me and the council pest control through the house just to see the garden from her side (there was an open back gate we just knocked for permission). He/we had an obligation to contact the council because the house was unbelievable. To have a child in that home was a disgrace. The house was completely renovated and a woman and her newborn daughter moved in... the baby cried. Babies cry, I never had issue with that. I just felt bad for the pair of them. The mum would scream the house down at all hours, screaming at her baby. I was scared for the baby/mums health and notified the council; they moved. The house somehow needed total renovating again even though they were only there for 5 months.

The house on the other side was a lovely couple when I moved in, they were saving for a deposit and managed to do so. I'd love to still have them as neighbours, since then there has been four or five different families in that house, from what I know, two for sure didn't pay all their rent and just dashed off. Had a nice Polish family there for a year, they had two kids, heard them at weekends playing in the garden and that was it; never heard a peep in the evenings, they even knocked to say bye when moving though we hardly knew each other. I'd take all of them neighbours (well other than the non-payers) over who is in there now. In 2 months they managed to trash a fence, loud music at stupid hours, random bin fires in the day time which at times got a bit OTT, wonderful stench of weed, cig butts thrown over the fence (which obviously got thrown back) and their garden is becoming a tip which no doubt will mean rats again. They are wasters that are cheating the system and proud of it.

I've known bad renters but they are just more memorable because that is life. I miss the good ones but as a few people have said, at least they don't own the place! They'll slip up and get caught with drugs or will just stop paying because that is the kind of people they are.

I have friends that rent too and from what I see they treat the homes with respect and are respectful of their neighbours.

You don't know her circumstances, partner or husband could have deceased, no need for the insinuation of bad morality - that is projection. The fact that the father is not around for, whatever reason, is nothing to do with her next door neighbour. or you, for that matter.

Regardless of the circumstances in which she became a single parent it is her responsibility to ensure that her offspring do not have an adverse effect on the people living around them.

Such a shame that not all people share the same values be they owner occupiers or tenants.

Well yes, I mean homosexuality was still illegal, racism was rife, women didn't have access to reliable birth control and were thereby excluded from the job market - things change.

Given the amount of offspring some people insist on churning out you would be forgiven for thinking that birth control isn't all that reliable even in this supposedly modern day and age!

need an answer, yes we were still trying to sell but have now removed it from the market. We were very happy here and want to move for two reasons, this is a three storey town house and as we get older stairs are beginning to become a problem. Plus we would like to be nearer family who live further South.
We have reduced the price and changed agents but houses are so cheap here that we cannot sell and have enough to buy a much smaller house elsewhere. There are several good 4 bed semis for just over £100k not far away.
I understand there are decent renters but as I said we have had five terrible ones live next to us in a few years and have had enough!

Got handed a postcard last night to read out...

"Sorry to hear about your rotten child, I hope you get over it soon..."

My bad. That should have been "rotten cold".
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

I will also add that I and my wife were single parents before we got together. I looked after two children for several years on my own, had two jobs so I could save for a deposit for a house and never claimed any benefits.
Just had a word with our lovely neighbour, I was very polite and asked her to pick up the dog mess next to our front gate and not to flick her fag ends onto our terrace, guess what her reply was???

She flicked the cigarette she was smoking at me and said "shove it up your AR+SE"

I can never understand why people like her who don't like children and find them a nuisance have so many. She would have realised after the first child that she didn't like children or want to spend anytime with them but then she had 4 more.

Because she gets more benefit that way. I think you need a child under 5 to claim income support. So if the 4 year old is her youngest, she will need another child soon. She is probably already working on it, hence the long nights out.
