PayM - 61 111 SMS

Just got a text from 61 111 saying someone tried paying money into my account, text stop to opt out.
I googled it and PayM returned in several results, but I'm not signed up to it. I don't see why anyone would be sending me money. Is it a scam SMS?

Does sound very much like the beginning of a scam, especially given that you're not signed up to them.
No doubt they'll be hoping that there'll be someone with PayM who'll just click on it, and then the scam starts1 -
I had the same text a few days ago. Googled it and apparently 61111 is a genuine PayM number but as I'm not signed up for PayM I assumed it was a scam so ignored the message. Nobody owes me any money anyway and if they did I can't see them using PayM.1

inbound numbers are often spoofed. dont rely on them to come from the people they are purporting to be.0

If you aren't registered for PayM, you cannot receive a genuine PayM payment advice.

From the FAQ on the site:The person you are sending your Paym payment to will need to be registered for the service with their bank or building society. If they’re not registered we’ll send them a text with details of how to sign up for Paym. You will need to find another way to pay them until they sign up. More information about the text message we send them can be found here.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards.
