Al Rayan Bank Warning

  • If you want to view your fixed-term deposit, just select "Deposit Information" on the left hand side.

There is a new Android APP just released, you have register to use it and use a different ID and password to the web login.

The APP shows all the accounts and deposits you have with them.

There is one small glitch, after registering for the APP you may have you web login blocked and there is a note that registering for the APP may have caused it.

If that happens, you need to call them and get it unblocked.

Remember, the APP and web login WILL remain different.

Maybe I've just been incredibly lucky..

No problems whatsoever logging in to or using their website, which as websites go is far from the worst I've ever seen. My online deposits and withdrawals have happened as expected without error.

The only issue I've had is call wait times.

That mirrors my experience, too. I had a cash ISA with them a few years ago, and now have an Everyday Saver with about a dozen SOs, acting as my hub for deposits to various current and regular saver accounts. The website takes a bit of getting used to and they have odd rules, such as that you can't set up an SO to start more than 30 days in the future but once set up, all is working a-ok.

The worst bit is without a doubt getting hold of someone on the phone. The wait times are extraordinary but as and when you get through, you do get skilled and courteous help. I would say that if you expect to need to call them regularly and are not of a very patient nature, Al Rayan are not for you. Otherwise they are great, and I am a very happy Al Rayan customer.

I returned to Al Rayan the signed paper form to apply for a fixed term deposit then I made an electronic transfer of the cash. A few days later I recieved an email from Al-Rayan reminding me that the clocks go back on 27th October, also including a link to information about insulating my house, eliminating drafts, bleeding my radiators, checking my roof is not leaking and a few other things, but I have heard nothing from them about my account! I thought they are a bank, not a home energy saving consultancy! Too soon to start worying yet, but I do hope not to have to wait too long to get confirmation that my account is opened.
I have never received home energy saving blurb from them. Check your Marketing preferences and change them according to your requirements
  • I will also add when I did have a query about one of my fixed term funds still being in holding account a couple of weeks after funds were sent (should have automatically changed to actual fixed rate account) I left a secure message on a Saturday, I was phoned by mid morning on the Monday, everything was sorted out with Interest back dated to date funds were sent, phone call operator was as Colsten described above.

There is a new Android APP just released, you have register to use it and use a different ID and password to the web login.
There is also a new iOS app. Much nicer than the old one. Takes a while to set up but then they offer touchID / faceID, making further logins a doddle.

Setting up new payees, and setting up SOs, still needs to be done in online banking. You also need online banking to view your SOs.

Al Rayan have Twitter and Facebook presence. Whilst you won't get personalised support through these channels, you might want to let some steam off there if you are unhappy.
  • Glad ive seen this thread as i was considering opening a fixed rate bond with them.I wont bother now, thnks!
  • Al Rayan have been swamped since they introduced the Everyday Saver at 1.6% and the latest fixed-term deposit accounts, hopefully wait times will now reduce as the new version pays much less.

My call today was answered much more quickly and as usual, handled exceptionally politely and efficiently.

Fixed-term deposit funds do go through a holding account, but once they are set up, the start date will be the date on which you applied.

@Collyflower1, they are an excellent bank.

My money still isn’t in my CBS ISA despite Al Rayan Bank stating the issue with their paperwork had been resolved 2-days ago, so I have just called CBS to be told Al Rayan Bank have sent incorrect paperwork for a second time! The incompetence of Al Rayan Bank is unbelievable. Yesterday I submitted a formal complaint to Al Rayan Bank.

Al Rayan are not worth the hassle or stress for a a fraction of a percentage point more.

I have now downloaded and registered for the new Andoid app, which was fine.

However for the browser login, I now get

"You have been refused entry into this site.
Your user login is currently blocked which could be for a couple of reasons: A failed security check or you have recently registered for the latest Mobile Banking app. For support call: 0800 408 6407.
    "

After 50 minutes waiting on hold on this line, I was told I had to select the option "view the new app via desktop", which involves selecting the 'scan' option on the phone app and taking a scan of a code on my Laptop screen to authorise. This worked OK, and I see the APP interface in my browser. I was told that was the only way I can log on at the moment.

However the online app doesn't allow Standing Orders, which somewhat scuppers my plans for using this as a hub account if indeed this is the only interface now and access the for the old one doesn't return :(

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."
