You haven't been mis-sold. You have mis-bought. Our tumbler is 11 years old. Would it still work with the mobile technology of that time?
Why the Billy-goats-gruff have you tied a long-lasting appliance to a fast-moving technology?
Lol! Talk about first world problems.0 -
Usually an inch or so, think contactless card type of operation. What range does NFC have?

Does your phone have the wifi turned on?
NFC is only for very close proximity use and if you are wanting to operate or check on the drier from a distance then the app does this over the wifi signal.0 -

Check your settings to see what yours is running on.
I have the same phone as OP.
It is running on Android 9
EMUI is Huawei's skin that runs over the top of Andriod.
Just like HTC Sense is the skin over a HTC phone.
The basic Andriod version is more than enough.
It could be that the wall is causing the issue. Especially if it has metalled insulation between house & garage.
And most sites say 10Cm max as it is designed for security. Mostly used for Pay apps. What is the maximum range of NFC?
3 feet
Originally, NFC built on the ISO 14443 standard for transactions. This standard limited the read range to a few inches in order to prevent eavesdropping on tag-to-reader communication. More recently, NFC has incorporated the ISO 15693 standard, which offers a maximum read range of about 3 feet
For anything like this to work it really needs WiFi as even Bluetooth is going to be range limited in a house.Life in the slow lane0 -

The issue is not me being in the house and not with the dryer. I am literally holding the phone against the chip in the dryer to sync the 2 together and it just doesn't find the phone so it's the initial sync that won't work.0

There are many people out there with disabilities who can't get off their backsides and turn the timer for which products like this are extremely useful.0 -

Is NFC activated?
If you go into settings & device connectivity. Check in there.
Also check APP permissions. Could be something is blocked.Life in the slow lane0 -
My phone itself is less than 6 months old and the model is a Huawei P20 pro which was only released last year so certainly not old.
No where does it say it is only certain phones that it will work with just says android and NFC.
The engineer tested the dryer with his work phone which was HTC and older than my phone and it worked straight away so he jus said its my phone!
And yes of course you still have to go to the garage to put the washing in the machine but you can then change the setting and monitor how long is left on the cycle etc without having to go and check.
In an ideal world I would have thought to check but having just moved house I had ALOT of other things going on and so didn't think of it - especially as I had no reason to think it wouldn't work.
That's not how it works. You can change settings using the app then load them onto the washing machine using NFC. But the machine only has NFC connectivity so you cannot remotely monitor it or do anything unless you are standing next to it,.
I'm interested in smart technology but I think this is pretty useless and the Wi-Fi ones are much better.0 -
I have this dryer and also a P20 Pro. I can get the app to work and it will communicate with the dryer. However, as others have pointed out, it is Near Field Communication (NFC) and literally only works to program a cycle etc within centimetres of the appliance. The dryer is not capable of the functionality you require.0
