    What range does NFC have?

Even if you could get your phone to sync, will it work over that distance?

A trust you have already tried to sync whilst standing right next to it?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)

You bought the washing machine in March which is over 6 months ago. The phone is less than 6 months old.

It sounds like it's the it's the phone that's been miss sold not the washing machine.

Did you ask when buying your phone if it was compatible with the hoover dryer app?

Aside from the consumer rights issue....

The world's gone mad. What a pointless piece of tech for tech's sake. A tumble dryer is probably the most basic of all home appliances. Why it needs to be 'smart' is beyond me.

Back on the consumer rights issue, I think you'll struggle because the purchase pre-dates the phone purchase and there's probably something in the manual for the dryer about not being able to guarantee compatibility for an indeterminate period. This is the flaw with these smart products - they can become obsolete far sooner than envisaged because of software updates, hardware no longer being supported, etc.
  • Yes I checked when buying the phone that it would still have all the needed tech to work with the dryer i.e the right android system and the NFC thing.
When you first sync the 2 together you have them right next to each other and then after that use as normal. My garage is attached to the house so only a wall between the 2 so distance no issue if the initial sync had worked.

If the guidance says Android 4.4 or greater and the app doesn't work on a mainstream Android phone as Op's is then I think there is cause for complaint. As an aside I like boy's toys but this does seem a bit of an abuse of technology.

You have bought a phone which didn't synch with the dryer you already owned. You therefore appear to have bought the wrong phone!
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • The phone has all the listed specifications the tumble dryer apparently needs so how is it wrong?

I have the same phone as you, I've checked the operating system and its running off EMUI, which I understand to be Huawei's version of Android, your phone does not appear to be running on Android 4.4 or newer.

Check your settings to see what yours is running on.

  • What the hell is wrong with getting off your backside, turning the timer dial and pressing start?

You haven't been mis-sold. You have mis-bought. Our tumbler is 11 years old. Would it still work with the mobile technology of that time?

Why the Billy-goats-gruff have you tied a long-lasting appliance to a fast-moving technology?
