Miss-sold tumble dryer

Hello,
So earlier in the year (March) I purchased a Hoover tumble dryer from Curry's. Given the nice summer I have not really needed to use it until the last few weeks which is why I am only really now certain of the problem and want to no if I have a leg to stand on...
The tumble dryer is a smart dryer which syncs to an app on your phone so you can manage it from your phone. In order for this to work according to the website you need an android phone (check) with NFC (check). So after calling Hoover several times to tell them I couldn't get the app and the dryer to sync they have today sent out an engineer who has told me that despite my phone having the right technology it was not compatible with the dryer and therefore I could not use this feature!
This was pretty much the only reason we brought this dryer as it is kept in the garage so I could manage from inside the house but as I've had it for over 6 months do I have any rights?
Thanks for any help.

Do you need a more updated operating system?

If the problem is your phone being old/weird, it would probably be cheaper/simpler to acquire an Android device which is compatible (even if you only end up using it as a remote control for the dryer!).

But what does the app allow you to do - switch it on and turn it off, you still need to go into the garage to empty/fill it/check it's dry.

If it works using NFC that has a very limited range, so I think you would need to be in the garage anyway

  • My phone itself is less than 6 months old and the model is a Huawei P20 pro which was only released last year so certainly not old.
No where does it say it is only certain phones that it will work with just says android and NFC.
The engineer tested the dryer with his work phone which was HTC and older than my phone and it worked straight away so he jus said its my phone!
And yes of course you still have to go to the garage to put the washing in the machine but you can then change the setting and monitor how long is left on the cycle etc without having to go and check.
In an ideal world I would have thought to check but having just moved house I had ALOT of other things going on and so didn't think of it - especially as I had no reason to think it wouldn't work.

You bought the washing machine in March which is over 6 months ago. The phone is less than 6 months old.

It sounds like it's the it's the phone that's been miss sold not the washing machine.
  • We brought it online but all the videos etc specify android phones. This is from the website:

uses NFC technology so you can use your Android smartphone to interact with your dryer. Using the Hoover Wizard app, you can control, monitor and manage the tumble dryer with ease.
