Drivers of expensive cars - do you get paranoid?

We're lucky enough to have two very nice new cars last few years. To be quite frank I really don't care that much about parking dents/where we park.
All cars depreciate regardless, the main job of our cars is to move us from A to B, life is just to short to waste worrying about cosmetic blemishs on cars regardless of price.
Its not a matter of "lifes too short" for me.
I was always brought up to look after what i owned and look after it. Treat it with respect and be grateful for what you've got.
It would be quite an alien concept for me to put something i owned in to a position whereby it may get damaged through someone elses negligence or to not be bothered if it were damaged.0 -

Yeah but, it’s a car. The whole point of it is to go places that aren’t it’s home. You have to accept some risk or there’s no point having one!0 -

Of course. Theres risk in using the car at all, so clearly i accept that as the car is driven.
I can accept that the car will suffer wear and tear, stone chips and maybe the odd scuff to a wheel or to the car (which i will repair).
I can accept that the car may be in an accident. As long as noone is hurt then thats the main thing - a car is repairable.
What i can not accept is other people damaging it through their negligence, stupidity or deliberately.
That does not seem an unreasonable stance to me.
Our car is driven. Driven hard and driven often. Its well maintained, well serviced but its no garage queen.0 -

Who here wants other people to damage their property on purpose?
But at the same time we live in the real world, so unless you never interact with other people how are you going to ensure no one damages your property?
The total out of pocket cost of our cars is over 6 figures, do I want people to damage them? No ofcourse not, but at the end of the day they are just cars, take a look at the news, if worrying about car park dents is your main concern in life than consider your self lucky:).0 -

Twisting what i said.
No one wants to, obviously, nor did i say that.
But some people seem to find it acceptable that other people will ding or scuff their car and that when it does happen, they wont do anything about it in terms of repair. Its then "OK" on both accounts.
But at the same time we live in the real world, so unless you never interact with other people how are you going to ensure no one damages your property?
I've already said what i and other people who care about their property do - we minimise the risk by parking at the other side of car parks, in end spots and avoid higher risk places if possible.

Twisting what i said again.
No one said it was my / our main concern in life, but correct me if i'm wrong, we're on a thread where someone asked the question relating to being paranoid about your car / ensuring you keep it as safe as possible?
Therefore, it seems apt to respond on that specific subject?0 -

I recognise what you are saying but also accept there is a small amount of inevitability to damage. If not my carelessness, which obviously I try to avoid then there will be others which is unavoidable. Failing that there will always be stone chips etc qhich are all part of driving. I accept it will.happen, I am not accepting.
Yup. Absolutely. You can only do what you can do.0 -

Otherwise, take up two spaces
You’d be climbing over your passenger seat if I found your car, a favourite past time of mine is parking three inches from the driver’s door of 2 space hoggers.
And I sit in the car while her indoors does the shopping, so no chance of retribution.
Always a pleasure watching someone who thinks he’s something have to avoid penetration by gearstick :rotfl:0 -

If hes in the middle of two spaces then you'd have to straddle two spaces yourself to park that close to him.
You'd also be practically nose to nose (his drivers door to your drivers door) with him as hes trying to get in to the car otherwise your missus couldnt have got out of your car.
But other than that, a great story.
Not that it happens - like our lipstick smearing friend i would say the reality is very different from the internet willy waving bravado.0
