Take my advice and start the process of opening a Birmingham Midshire account. It will take almost a month to get the thing open- you may fall foul of their strict eligibility rules
- not all CU accounts are FSCS protected, so you need to check
- not all of them offer DDs
- they usually pay dividends rather than interest, and the dividens may be zero
If you live in the South East, you will almost certainly be eligible, or easily be able to make yourself eligible, for an account with the London Capital Credit Union. Their basic share account is FSCS protected and you can set up any number of DDs for it. I am sure there are other CUs who offer DDs.0 -

Yes, as I said, it will be counted as 4 DDs (or possibly 5DDs) a month.I have weekly DDs coming out of 1 PO account which satifies Co-op's requirement for monthly reward.
IF Barclays doesn't need different DDs, PO will work. ......
You're causing confusion by asking about weekly and monthly DDs for same current account.Ghostcrawler wrote: »can I have 2 DDs (weekly and monthly) linked with same current account? This is for Barclays 2 DDs requirement, as I understand Barclays just need 2 active DDs going out every month for BR and not 2 active different DDs. Would appreciate your response.
WHY do you need both?0 -
No I dont, you are right..just weekly DDs would do, thank you!!0

Guys,
If I change my linked account, is this just in respect of withdrawals on the account and any direct funding I want to make from the link? Basically, i've currently got a weekly direct debit currently setup from my co-op account Will that still be in place if I change the link to my Barclays account? Or will those DDs start being taken from Barclays?0 -

this does not answer your question directly, but since they have introduced a new online saver, issue 42, only last week could you not perhaps open one of those in addition to the one you already have, but with your barclays account as the linked a/c?

(or as an existing customer you should in principle at least be able to open an online loyalty saver too, but some people here have reported difficulties with this)0 -
successfully changed nominated account on a PO jobbie, but when I tried to set up DDs they come back that new a/c is "invalid account type". Have 10 or so POs0

Moved one of my PO DD's as part of a current account switch.
Instead of switching it, the PO have instead just cancelled it. And if past history is anything to go by it will be impossible to reinstate. They are completely useless.0 -

I'm also having problems.
When changing the linked a/c for one of my PO savers I put in my old TSB a/c details instead of the new ones. I realised my mistake within minutes and put the correct details in. I couldn't cancel the wrong DD deposits that I had set up though as they were showing as pending.
Fast forward to when the correct DD deposits were taken successfully from the correct TSB a/c and all looked OK. However, the DD deposits from the wrong TSB a/c still show as pending and there is no way to cancel them. No DD was set up on the old TSB a/c so I can't cancel it from that end.
I made the same mistake with my wife's a/c and additionally set up the new correct DD as weekly rather than monthly Attempting to correct this gaves a technical error and crashes out of the a/c.
My wife and I had 4 x sole a/cs each + 3 joint ones. Now trying to edit any active DD on any PO a/c gives the error & crashes out.
I called PO and spoke to Kathlyn who was most unhelpful and said the problem was probably down to having so many a/c as you are only allowed one sole + one joint. She said she would clear the DD details on the problem a/c to resolve the issue with the pending transactions. Unfortunately what she actually did was clear all the linked a/cs for ALL of my PO a/cs (sole and joint). The pending transactions STILL show on the problem a/c.
I've reinstated the linked a/cs and have tried to tidy things up by closing some PO a/cs. I successfully closed 2 x joint ones but have had no luck closing any sole ones as it says the balance is unavailable due to uncleared transactions. The last transactions for each sole a/c were on the 5th so I just called and found out that it takes 5 working days for these to clear.
I'll try again to close these sole PO a/cs next week and see if I can get the a/cs to function correctly once the a/c with the pending transactions has gone.0 -
I have three PO Online Saver accounts, 1 of one issue and 2 of another. Worked well enough for DD purposes. Then about 3 months ago all three stopped working in that I could not withdraw or Edit DDs. I called today. They apparently dealt with the problem but only on one account and still DD could not be edited. I called again. After a long hold I got told I can't have more than one sole account according to their T&Cs. News to me and anyway their systems allowed me to open 3 accounts. The other two non working accounts would not be fixed so I had to choose which to close. Each have an impact somewhere so I was forced to have then close 2. I wanted then to lodge a complaint. Would I accept £10 compensation. I agreed but really I ought to have stuck out for more as I will very soon lose more than that in lost interest at the linked accounts.0

I've got several accounts with them... I noticed the other day, one has a 'This account cannot be debited.' response every time I try to transfer money anywhere including othe PO accounts or the linked ac. after the linked ac was switched.
The irony is I'm trying to empty the ac to close it to reduce the number of PO acs I have..
All my others work fine.
I haven't mustered the patience to have the conversation yet.0
