I got a Morrisons delivery slot for next week Polly, so will try them, surprised that they deliver to me because I've never seen a Morrisons van in my life, had to google them to see what they looked like.RV got bad news at the docs. She was emailing his consultant in Edinburgh and is going to phone us today re what happens next.4

Oh blimey Mar, let us know how he gets on.
Sounds like your dd's boyfriend made a very good move Polly.
I had the phone call from work today - unpaid leave starting today. I actually feel a bit safer but I'd feel better still if the HT wasn't mingling with 1400 other children every day. I might have a clean house and a tidy garden by the end of this......5 -

OH is not 100% right now (50-60% I'd say), has been like this for a few months and why the PPC was needed. He should be almost back to normal in a few months. Nothing serious, and caused by a planned operation that was in great need for him, though he reacted badly to the operation meds and it was touch and go for a while after he came out of surgery. He's been mostly house bound and as he's my carer things have been hard. He does what he can still but I've had to use spoons I don't really have to do things that he couldn't that we couldn't let slip.
So in all I've been plodding along, had a few weeks off work a while back as had flu and am still clinging on to my job somehow.
Though on top of my disability we found out about half a year ago or so ago now that I have a compromised immune system (low white blood count but they aren't sure exactly why yet, meh) also and wouldn't you know it I work checkouts in a Supermarket. I'm taking precautions like I have been since I found out, though I have upped them a bit since January in all honesty (yet still got the flu!), but working in a Supermarket with people panic shopping and so more footfall right now is not a great place for me to be *sigh*. Sunday was ridiculously busy, there were people queued in aisles and we ran out of toilet roll within the first hour, then most of the dried foods and produce got picked clean also. It is crazy out there. Yesterday I was in a lot of pain, I was awake at 6am still today as I couldn't sleep through pain and I am in more pain than usual now (still in bed). Oh well, keep moving forward, I have work tomorrow so will have a nice bath tonight to help with pain and to relax.

Take comfort in the fact the Edinburgh hospital is the best place to deal with problems. How this will work with the over 70s needing to self isolate is an unknown if he's admitted and will need you to visit. I hope they'll get back to you asap so you have an idea of the way ahead.I shop in Morrisons from time to time. It's a bit out of the way compared to other shops so it depends on the weather and energy levels. They had a store near the high street years ago and I shopped there regularly. It was the first local supermarket to sell Wholemeal Pasta and other things that didn't appear in the local supermarkets for some years. They still offer a wide range of goods and as far as I know the first to offer "Wonky Veg" and loose fruit and veg with paper rather than plastic bags.Take care, Love to you both.polly & K xx

CRANKY I had hoped something would be done regarding some pay for those in your position however it seems not. Some larger companies seem to have plans and funds to support staff but it's impossible for small businesses without support from the Government.I hope you'll be able to manage with your widows pension. One positive is we all know how to make limited incomes go a long way. I feel financially and health wise we've be training for this over the years. As long as you've got wool life wont be too bad. I've been looking at the yarn, fabric and counted cross stitch stashes I've hung onto over the years. I did donate a fair amount to small local charity shops over the years but could never do the full Kondo. With no medical appts apart from Superdocs phone calls and if we stay well I can finally make the curtains I've had on the back burner for years. Maybe I'll knit some snuggly blankies and it would make sense to tackle some of the festive counted cross stitch on 22 count aida I usually end up screwing my eyes up in late Nov,early Dec.If the sun comes out I could do those things apart from the curtains in the garden.I always felt guilty not really embracing the Kondo thing but always had a feeling I'd need the stuff one day. It seems that time has come. Although I've donated loads of books over the years I still have lots. Not the same as new ones as I tend to remember the plots but better than nowt.Schools in this area are preparing for shutdown. Stuff is being set up online according to contacts in local education. I expect it will happen around the uk. It makes no sense to stay open when some staff are already self isolating for various reasons. People are being told to avoid public transport but many pupils travel by bus or train. I hope your HT will soon be safe at home.pollyxxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Thanks Polly, I've just had another email from HT's school saying that they're still open despite other schools in the area closing to all but GCSE pupils.3

D&GI'm so sorry to hear your OH hasn't been well. Hopefully he'll soon be back to his usual self but I can understand the difficulties when the carer is struggling too. The recent flu was quite a bad one and difficult to recover from. Dd got it and passed it on to me. Unlike her I'm not immune supressed but do have chronic bronchitis from a chilhood spent in the indusrial North with dirty smog in winter. We try to plan for such events as much as possible but it does make things difficult. I was still needing to go to collect meds etc but tried to choose my battles as much as possible. I cut every thing to essential level , the world wont end if I don't hoover or clean the windows for a while. As long as basic hygiene is observed we get through.I've never signed up to twitter but have been reading tweets from a young hospital doctor who is very down to earth and concentrates on proper hand washing and following medical advice. No scare stories or panic inducing statements just basic commonsense. He was talking of products such as Vick rub etc and steam inhaling yesterday to ease congestion which is something I've always used over the years. We have three friends working on tills, two in M&S in the food section and one in SBs. Two are immune suppressed and both are struggling badly. One was due to be admitted to a private hospital by the NHS after gall bladder surgery had gone badly wrong so we're hoping all is well with her.All are near or at the age when the state pension used to kick in at 60. I was lucky to get mine at 60 but I do think extending the years has impacted badly on womens health.Do you feel better mentally working or would you feel better not on the frontline at this time. I do remember you from the original thread but there were many different posters there and I can't recall if you claim PIP or ESA. Obviously now is not the time to try to find a different job with employers laying off staff during the present crisis or closing down completely. My best wishes to you both. Take care.pollyxx

Apart from pupils who travel on public transport there are those who have underlying health issues or may live with family in the risk catagories. Ditto staff members with health issues and other staff from the dinner ladies, janitors and cleaners etc. To my mind there should now be a proper policy in place, the whole idea is supposed to be stopping the spread and large gatherings are one of the things mentioned. So many other people come into schools apart from staff and pupils.Parents or carers, Local education, CAHMS and umpteen others it makes no sense not to have an overall policy in place now.pollyx

CRANKY. I've just caught up on todays news. Not sure what time you got the work email but do any of the government measures for businesses and employees apply to your situation? Sorry about the bold. Was just putting your name in bold to catch your eye and can't get the darn thing to go back to normal!pollyxETA I think I may have fixed it.Still no word from Mar. I've got the candle lit and the scent of lavender is making me sleepy. I'm hoping all is well.pollyxxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
