Banking with Windows XP

I hated XP but i keep it running on an old laptop so I can use my beloved printer for which there are no drivers beyond XP available. And no I'm not getting a new printer as nothing I've come across for the home market gives the same results and effects.
But on the other hand that machine isn't connected to the internet and doesn't have personal data on it anyway.0 -
Aren't the cashpoints still running WinXP ?
Many are and they represent a safety risk. However, it's a strawman argument as they are not connected to the public Internet. Nor are they likely to receive a malicious email with a virus payload. Nor are they likely to idly browse to an infected webpage.0 -
Tried Windows 10. Couldn't find where anything was, it wouldn't run the programmes I am used to and which do everything I want. Instead of that it seemed to be trying to sell me new programmes when I am perfectly happy with the old ones I have already bought and paid for, am used to and perfectly happy with.
Out of interest, what software doesn't work on Windows 10 that worked on your XP?
IMO Windows 10 is so much better than XP, after using Windows 10 for a few years, I would not use XP if you paid me.0 -

I don't know if it is better or not and I don't doubt there are more expert people than me but
Windows 10 seems to load more quickly, it crashes much less often, it runs new software and even when using ancient software (I use microsoft money) it is fine with that albeit with a modest amount of tweaking first time.
I imagine there may be some difficulties with anti virus software as time goes on and as already said even if you don't fall for the scam call and don't easily click dodgy links there are few or no security updates for XP and Vista these days and it seems that there are stories quite frequently about a newly discovered flaw which needs to be patched.
I rather suspect that the bad things which have happened to NHS hospital computer networks (and have also happened in parts of the USA recently) are in part due to using old software which is not updated.0 -

.
Microsoft Word and Excel for a start - which I have already bought and paid for to run on XP, and they were directing me to a regular subscription to use something different on Windows 10
Same with Nero 7, MGI Photosuite and DVD Decrypter0 -

Banks and Buiding Societies have had similar problems when one takes over another and tries to integrate both their computer systems.0 -

Well if you want to use Google Chrome on XP, only up to version 49 will work.
I'm currently using Chrome version 77 (on Windows 10).
Version 49 is probably ok but surely anyone using software would want the most up to date version.0 -

Point taken - although I'd be worried about ysing a Google browser for secure work.0 -

You buy a licence to use Office itself, not to use on a specific platform. That's not how it works. And in any event you can always use the web applications in any suitable modern browser.
The last version of Office that worked on XP is Office 2010. Anything newer is 7, 8 or 10 only.
All the software you've listed is really really old and its hardly surprising it doesn't work in anything newer than XP.
Nero 7 is a really old version now of that software that IMO was never bettered after version 6. The system requirements for version 7 make mention of Windows 2000 for a start which dropped out of support back in 2010. You can get better alternatives now that look and behave like Nero and for free - some versions of Nero used to be nobbled versions that were bundled for free with drives.
Certains versions of MGI Photosuite do work with 10 (if its new enough) otherwise its a legacy app and as for DVD Decrypter it was shut down in 2005. More modern tools such as MakeMKV and Handbrake do exactly the same job as DVD Decrypter.
Unfortunately IMO the argument of "what I'm used to" so far as software goes is a false economy, because nothing stays the same, its like saying I won't change the wallpaper in my house because what I have now is what I'm used to, but everybody has to paint the walls or change the wallpaper because the alternative is not pretty.0
