The only other thing I can suggest is to set the lock option to None, reboot and start again with finger print login.

In System (at the bottom of settings) it says ..

"Your device is up to date
Android 9
Current Version : PPWS23.116-20-8
Security patch level: 1 July 2019"


but under 'Security & location'
The 'security update' has a red icon to the left of it, but when you tap on it ... it says exactly the same as above!

Don't really want to use the fingerprint method, or were you suggesting that as a temporary method?

Just try it to see what happens and if you get the screen I've shown above.

Tried fingerprint and 'pattern' but all to no avail!

I suppose you could always try the last resort option and do a full reset. Just make sure you backup all your data first.

It took me about two hours to get all the settings right last week, but maybe .............

I had to do mine yesterday as it's been playing up ever since the Android 9 update. Like I said, the trick is to make sure everything is backed up. Use SMS Backup & Restore if you want backup your texts. Call history doesn't get backed up so you may need another app for that as well. Also a good idea to take screenshots of your home screens and apps tray so you don't forget which ones you've downloaded etc.

BUMP - sorry!


Came away for a break on Wed evening (brought the old phone with me just to compare settings and apps etc)
Thurs afternoon Moto kept randomly rebooting for no reason
Then it was OK
Fri mid-morning the same issue to decided to throw my toys out of the pram and send the new Moto back and reset the old Xaiomi and start again with it.


Instead of "Hello Moto", sadly now we have "goodbye Moto"


Suppose it falls into the 'tried and failed' camp.


Onwards and upwards.
