Money Questions - If Someone Goes to Prison

Have court on Thursday so just wanted to post here again while I could. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions of who to contact. It took my mind of other things for a while and I've been able to get things sorted out and got some help. My girlfriend is back with her parents and it probably is best especially with her being pregnant. Saying good bye today was one of the hardest things I've had to do as with her being the way she is I didn't want her to come to court. We've actually been arguing alot lately so I think it's better - she's stressed out with the pregnancy and I'm in bad form.
I said earlier that prison doesn't bother me too much but I'm just feeling thefact I'm probably going to miss the birth of my child and only get to see him for the first time in a prison visiting room. Depending on what I get I might miss my other boy's first day at school. I'm not monaing just saying how it is.
M - I know you will probably look on here again and I just wanted to say what I've said to you before. I love you so much and I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused. Please look after the kids when I'm not around and hopefully I'll be back and we can start again soon enough. J0 -
Whilst in no way condoning what you did to get yourself in this mess, Jamie, I wish you and your family all the best for the future. Your post above is very moving.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Hi Jamie 27
Not sure how the Council Tax works for prisoners but I believe it is the single person discount (SPD) which should be available to a partner. ie 25% off the usual charge for CT with the prison a "disregard" for CT purposes.
Regards and good luck

Hey Jamie,
No advice but I wish you all the best in court.
I know it's not the same at all but I recently went to court to declare bankrupt and i've never been in trouble before so this was the biggest shock of my life. I'm sure you are more worldly wise than me though, and I'm sure things will work out for you.
Be strong & don't look back, there is nothing you can do now, just accept it and get through it.. xxBSC Member 155

Jamie, I hope you read this before you go to Court on Thursday. I usually tell people to expect the worst and then everything else is a bonus!!! At least you've got your domestic circumstances organised should the worst happen and lets hope you can get some comfort from that. Above all, the Probation Officer in me hopes that you realise that this is one situation you don't want to find yourself in again!
As regards you getting a lower category prison (C or D) I don't know how you've been assessed in terms of risk to the public/how likely you are to commit such an offence again, or what your previous convictions are like, but in general if you behave yourself in prison and show your remorse and that you are of low risk then you should be eligible. In fact if you look at the offences of men who've absconded from "open" conditions then you find that very often they've committed the most serious of offences. The same applies to tagging aswell. One thing that needs to be taken into account in terms of tagging is the proximity of where you'll be living to the victim and any impact it may have on him/her. So you could still be eligible for that which will knock an extra bit off (don't forget that anyone going to prison for less than four years automatically serves half).
If you do get a suspended/community sentence tomorrow then do come back and let us know. Actually if you get prison then let us know when you get out. Please.
Good luck.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
Jamie; lots of people will be thinking of you and your gf tomorrow. I hope for all of you that it is a good out come. Take care of yourself and just remember that you have two wonderful children and a partner that really cares for you. Best Wishes G0

Hello, I wouldn't really be thinking worse case but understand you are just thinking of your family. I know that some prisons will help with travelling expenses for visits and so forth, But you wife would need to contact them directly. I know that financial help is given to those who are renting up to I believe 6 month sentences whereby the rent would be paid, all I can suggest is contacting your mortgage lender, could you take a repayment holiday? As for electronic monitoring on the length of sentence you think you may get you wouldn't be eligible, also dependent on the level of violence. If you can have a good look at your finances as you may not receive a custodial and if you dont you may end up with a huge fine which would need paying.0
