I know it’s a scam, but a part of me thinks could my dear Mum in heaven be sending something lucky my way seeing as it’s my birthday coming up.

Well time to get rid of that nonsense and wise up!

Nobody cold calls you with a super deal.......it just never happens
as carphone warehouse tend to do good deals.

..Well No that's not true, I received a call from an unrecognized number from someone with a strong Asian accent, saying they where from the '3' network offering me a "super deal" I said I wasn't interested but my Son may well be and I gave her his No. saying phone him on Saturday, in the meantime he tried to get this same offer by phoning '3', going on 3's Web site, and the local '3' shop, none could match this offer at the time (it is available now a year on) so when they phoned he took the "super deal" offer and all was good!  OK I'm not saying there are not loads of scammers such as this CPW scam but from our experience some are genuine, but its so risky and probably not a good idea to do as my Son did. I don't know how you can tell if its a genuine deal of how you could protect yourself?

You gave a scammer your son's number?

Think about it...if a deal is really 'so great', then why would they need to cold call you to market it?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

This cold calling scam is the best part of 2 years old...
They call pretending to work for legitimate mobile companies like Carphone Warehouse and offer extremely cheap deals to gain your details.
They then order phone contracts in your name (using your details) for phones they intend to steal from you.
Once the phones arrive, you realise they are the wrong phones and like magic they call and explain they've made a mistake.
They give you an address to send the phones (back) to where they wait and steal the phones.
This leaves victims with multiple, high priced contracts in their name and no phones to send back to where they were actually ordered from to cancel the contracts.
If you've been a victim of this scam you can find an article that's kept updated with the numbers and addresses the fraudsters are using as well as what to do, by searching google for 'Carphone Scam' ... it's the first result from PhonesLTD.co.uk

    Hope this helps :)

Had a call from Carphone Warehouse offering a great deal and would pay existing contract etc. Very heavy accent. I asked for an email stating the offer which duly arrived but stated Carphone WHAREHOUSE!. They followed up with a phone call but I just said no thanks
  • Think yourself lucky that the A was not an O!
  • Just got a scammer call me so posting this for awareness - please do not fall for this carphone warehouse selling every network’s upgrade - number currently in use shows up as a UK mobile but you can hear it’s an Indian call centre. I’m gonna have some fun with “Alex” and his female companion if they call back ... in the meantime, here is the current mobile number shown when they call ... do please stay safe.
