the funeral was the day before the hearing

I thought i'd pop back in here to post an update as there's nothing worse than following a thread similar to your own circumstances and the thread goes cold...
So, after messing up entirely and not making my telephone hearing, I emailed the court. I explained that I lost an immediate family member and the funeral was the day before the hearing (which is when I should have signed in for the call) and I was travelling the 5 hours home when the hearing was due.
I didn't get a reply.
This week I received a letter from the court advising that due to neither parties attending the telephone hearing the case has been struck out. I am beyond relieved. I thought with everyone working from home that CEL would have no reason not to sit on the phone and attend. It was a shock letter and I couldn't be happier that it's all over.
For anyone new to this board and starting their journey with fighting these cowboys - follow the advice and don't give up. I could easily have paid the money when I received the court claim. I could have easily paid the £85.00 that they reduced it to when they called me (and I was tempted!) but I stuck to the advice generously given by the members of this forum and despite my mess up, was successful.
Thank you to all who contributed!

Congratulations Victoria and many thanks for the update
A win is a win and not only have you saved money , the sc@mmers cel lost money because they lost the PCN charge , lost the court fees plus all their costs , so their bully boy business model failed (any old excuse to issue charges of up to £100)2 -

Thanks for the feedback Victoria. Well done. 👏Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
