My investments are accumulated since I was 23. It's not as much as I wanted by this age, but it's getting there.
I got some brilliant news! I'm going back to full time next week! Going to have money again! I will up my credit card payments back to £100, I need to work out how much to pay mum for the sofa and how much I need to save for the works I need to do to the flat and also up my investments. I have about £300 more a month so need to think things through.
Mum is actively fighting against me paying her back, so I'm thinking that if I pay her maybe £40 a month until I get the work done it may ease both of our minds. It's a small amount but would pay her off in less than two years, give her a little extra for the inconvenience and we're good I think.
I think I will up my investments by £50 (they are currently down £100) which will accelerate my savings for the work I need doing. Then after the work is done, I can up my investments.
I think if I remain careful, I will be able to get the last of the urgent work complete and then be in a better place. Get some savings back into place, start feeling more confident in my position in the world...
Additionally, I have started a list of things to do before I'm 40 because I have spent too much time worrying about things and not enough time doing. I have 17 things so far, but I'd like to add some more. However they are mainly just musicals I went to see so I need some variety so I added have a hawk land on my arm and walk an alpaca. Any suggestions welcome.
A friend of mine told me that he will probably pay his student loan off next year! Very excited for him as he works very hard so it will be great for him to get the full benefit of his salary. It has prompted me to have a look at mine, it looks like mine will be paid off in about 14 years assuming no payrises, which means I will just pay it off before the loan gets written off.6 -
Went to a diy store yesterday, I have been looking at electric radiator for my living room since spring. My living room is a rectangle with only one radiator to one side, so I decided in the winter it would be a good idea to get one but didn't want to spend £70 on a good one. The one I wanted went into the clearance and there was only one left, half price
Also got bathroom paint, filler, varnish remover and other bits I need for the flat. Spent over £100 in all! Eek
Finding life a little bit hard to balance at the moment, I'm doing housework on three different properties at the moment although one I'm only helping with once a week. Sure it'll get easier with practice!
I'm knackered, but I want to keep up the habit of posting to motivate myself.
This week I need to sort my banking for the month, pay for some electricity, tidy ... everywhere and work. Yuck.5 -
Hey KP,
Great news about now working full time and the extra income this will bring. We'll done on your bargain finds.

Hi KP I wanted to ask how you got going with investments? I haven't dared dip my toe in that water but should probably do so!
I'm sorry to hear about your uncle. The service sounds lovely, as does the gesture to his gardening in the flowers.Choose kind2 -
@longway2go I don't know how long it will last. We have started to clear my uncle's house, since the family has been living in for at least 4 generations there is a lot of stuff and a lot of history. So far we have found letters to my grandad about his service in WW2, letters to my great grandparents and insurance documents showing that my uncle was in a car crash in 2002. I also help take care of mum's house, we sort of trade chores because there are some things I can't do.
@moneyfordreams It's a massive relief! Can't wait to get my proper salary again! Although I miss my fridays off!
@Hazelnutty Honestly I spent too long investigating and thinking about it. Eventually, what I did was put 4k into a bank which didn't receive interest and didn't look at it for about 6 months. I then became so removed from that money that I actually could invest the money. Eventually I gave myself a deadline where I had to make a decision, it's too easy to continue researching forever and then I picked a tracker that if I were to start again today I probably wouldn't pick again... But I'm so pleased that I did. Don't know if any of that was anything like what you wanted to hear.4 -
Did my monthly money round up yesterday, cash is doing better than expected but will still need to be careful. Having said that, I have literally just purchased a new phone. Whoops!? My phone has been steadily breaking for the last 6 months or more, it is getting to point where it is refusing to answer phonecalls, receive texts and gets hot when just browsing the internet. I haven't been able to use the email app in over a year and just been dealing with it. I asked a techy friend of mine for suggestions within my price point and used the vouchers I received for my birthday so have only put £90 on my (cashback) credit card.
Still going to my uncle's each week to do some sorting. As previously mentioned, there are a lot of things from a lot of generations. Today we found some letters from my late aunt, she died when I was 8 so I didn't get to know her well so it's lovely to have those letters to get to know her more. Also been finding presents for people, he's much like me and my mum so would pick presents up in advance, it's been great fun trying to work out who they are meant for.
Investments are up, I think it's a short term thing though.
I also worked out that I have paid off a WHOOPING 2.5% of my mortgage.6 -
Sounds like a new phone was a must.
It's lovely that you are finding those special things at your Uncles and hope it is helping in some small way.
Well done on the mortgage payments.Mortgage Aug 2019 161,000 :eek::eek::eek:Nov 2019 156,500:T Jan 2020 153,122:T, Apr 2020 149,500, Apr2021 139, 675, Oct 2021 136,823, Dec 2021 136,120🙂EF 0/12,000 (0%)😕 (5062.44 was ERC), Jan 2023 128,650. Thought that I might get a telling off for the phone :lmao: Still waiting, should be approx 2 more weeks.
I have next week off so I have a few goals:
Bathroom:
I want to get the walls and skirting boards all finished. This means I need to fill the small cracks, sand down the walls/ceiling, check for any more cracks, wash the walls, paint the walls, tape the walls and floor, sand the skirting boards and finally paint the skirting boards. I will be doing that on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Bedside table:
I bought a bedside table that I love the shape of for £5 before lock down. I hate the colour and it has scratches. I want to see if I can take the varnish off and sand it. It would be nice to be able to paint it and varnish it this week but I don't want to do too much so this is on the back burner for Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Been watching youtube videos of people doing similar things so I'm hoping I can get use some of the tips. I'm hoping I will like it because I want to do it for other things, for example I want to get a corner display cabinet and paint it to my taste.
Uncle's House
Still a work in progress. Will go there Tuesday and Thursday, there has been at least 20 bin bags out thus far.
Fingers crossed I get something actually done!4
