I'm so sorry to hear of your loss KP. It sounds as though you were really close, I hope you'll have a lot of good memories to hold on to once things feel a bit less raw xMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days

Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!2 -
Thank you South Coast. We are close, I just wish we had more time. He is too young.
Selfishly, I am concerned about his house. My grandad was actually born in that house and I would like for it to stay in the family somehow, don't really matter who lived there. But it is an incredibly expensive area so I think that the IHT will be prohibitive to keeping it within the family. I've spent all my childhood summers there, used to hang out there at lunch time when I worked in the same town. It still has my mum's wedding dress in a wardrobe somewhere. My mum planned to move back into it for retirement after dad passed away, we never thought that he would pass first as he's 10 years younger than mum..2 -
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss but pleased you have so many happy memories which I am sure you will hold onto. It must be incredibly hard that the last part of his life couldn't be shared but it sounds as if he would know you would be there if you could.Mortgage Aug 2019 161,000 :eek::eek:Nov 2019 156,500:T Jan 2020 153,122:T, Apr 2020 149,500, Apr2021 139, 675, Oct 2021 136,823, Dec 2021 136,120🙂EF 0/12,000 (0%)😕 (5062.44 was ERC), Jan 2023 128,650. Thank you for your very kind messages. It's been a difficult time, not helped by work being super stressful. The funeral is this week, our family is fairly spread out of the country and have some vulnerable members so not many people will be able to attend. Once it is safe, we will get together to celebrate his life.
Spending wise, I have not been very good. Went and spent some money on things for my flat, a lamp, a cushion and a lampshade for £11. Also purchased a lot of ice cream for considerably more, quite a lot on unnecessary food that I have not been eating.
So I have done the money shuffle for the month. Overall it looks like a "good" month. £274.73 of interest paid in the month, £475.27 paid off the mortgage. My investments have increased by £2,292.93 and pension has increased by £507.06. However my cash should have increased by £1,186 (due to my accessing an old lost ISA and a refund) but only increased by £1,020. Meaning I have overspent by £166. My monthly investments are decreasing by £100, meaning I need to cut back by £66 although this might be a hang over from the previous month as my expenditure is always a month behind due to the CC. My credit card is currently £350 less than it was the previous month (accounting for the sofa purchase).
I have also come to the decision, I'm going to take my mum and sister to York next year (or when it's safe) and we will go on a ghost walk there. We have gone on ghost walks before but we didn't have a ghost who liked to walk, this time we will.3 -
A celebration of life when it is safe sounds like a really lovely idea.
I say don't worry about the overspends, you are aware of them and sometimes they just happen. Sorry to read about the loss of your uncle. He sounded like a lovely man. I too am glad you have good memories of your times together. Finances often take a beating when we want to gain some comfort. Thank you. His funeral was yesterday, it was very weird. I expected the seats to all be there with like notices on them but instead the seats were completely removed with a select few seats strategically placed, it was quite a shock to see. The flowers were beautiful, my uncle was a gardener so the florist managed to incorporate runner beans (actual runner beans not flowers) and sweet pea flowers into the flowers which made everyone smile. My brother arrived late and caused the funeral to start a few minutes late, it was only fair as my uncle had to be told the movie start time was 30 minutes before so he'd only be 15 minutes late.
Had a migraine today which I expected. It was a weird little one though, comparatively little pain and light sensitivity but had fuzziness and visual distortions (but not as bad as usual).
At work we need to take a certain amount of holiday before some date. I'll be using the time to get on with some painting and sanding I need to do. It is frustrating though because we have so much work on and still only working 4 days.
Looking at my investments, they are doing alright. I'm at £24.5k so nearly a quarter of my target for age 40 but my mortgage is quite a long way off target. My credit card debt and family debt is higher than I wanted but all at 0% for the time being. Once I'm back to full time I will attack them with a vengeance. My daily interest appears to be £9.12 currently compared to £9.33 when I started, a little progress that I'm quite pleased with.3 -
The florist sounds like they did a great job of making it very personal.
Wow your savings are fab, well done.
