Telescope?!?! Was the car on the moon?
No, but the stamped number was small.
And it was the length of a car inside away I would assume.

So I reckon, by the Father Ted method, "Small plus far away equals very small" :D

I wasn't there though. It's just one of those things that's stuck in my mind for 50 years,

Firstly, I would say that people can be more than a bit harsh in their responses here, but thats a lack of compassion and poor upbringing.
Many of the answers are correct though, you were not covered for loss of keys and the fact that the AA had offered to arrange a locksmith was above and beyond what they are required to do.
Without the appropriate cover, the loss of keys is a fault of the customer.
They would not attend and open the vehicle as that would leave your vehicle insecure and them liable.
If your keys were locked in the vehicle, that's known as a lock-out and they would have attended.
Some companies would attend, try and gain access to the vehicle and as they would be unable to remove the steering lock, would charge you a couple of hundred pounds to provide specialist lifting equipment and then more for recovery (as it wasn't a breakdown).

If they have rejected your complaint, i'm afraid there is nowhere else to go. Breakdowns are not regulated by the Financial Ombudsman service and the company's decision is final.
You could always take a civil action, but that would be fruitless.
The devil is in the detail and it's obvious you hadn't consulted the terms and conditions of what you had purchased.
Key Cover is widely available through car and home insurance companies as well as some breakdown providers.
You do need to accept that you are complicit in your predicament and not look to blame others for what you "thought" you may be covered for.
The fact you had a child with you makes no difference at all. Companies don't operate on "compassion".
It's been some years since the AA have branded themselves as the "4th emergency service" and have now moved on to marketing their grip on technology.
No longer can companies claim to prioritize "lone females" or the disabled, that's now discriminatory.
Instead, they will take the information you provide on a call and look to prioritize you according to your circumstance and situation (at least that's what they'll have you believe).

I hope you take this as a learning curve and read that pesky small print in future. If you're a homeowner I suggest it's never too late to dig out the T&C's of your home cover and KNOW exactly what you are covered for.
    All the best.

Even if you have cover, it would still be your fault unless they were stolen. Just your liability for costs involved would be covered.

Breakdown cover is a type of insurance product and as such, is within the remit of the financial ombudsman.

Treating people the exact same is actually discrimination. Equality is treating everyone as equals, not necessarily treating them as if they are all the same. Sometimes you need to treat them differently to ensure they are treated as equals.

Maybe you should pay the AA compensation for wasting their time with spurious complaints?

How did it take 6hrs to book a hotel room in London? That takes 15min tops.

People give up their free time to help on here, you can’t dictate how they reply.
You didn’t have the correct level of cover, simple. :)

Seriously, some of you on here are hilarious lol. Not been on for a while. My original question had nothing to do with "not taking responsibility." it was just a simple question on a "help and advice" forum. I'm happy to accept facts, the manner in which they are told is another story. Some people are here are helpful, friendly and no matter how silly or ridiculous the scenario will just give friendly advice. Others, like many replying to my thread, are plain and simply arrogant, patronising, immature know it all's who are on here not to be helpful but to get an ego trip or to mock. Having shown this thread to various people i know this isn't just my opinion. Feel free to PM me if you want to take this elsewhere for further discussion.

Is this the modern day equivalent of asking people outside for a fight :rotfl:
