Thing is if they haven't taken a statement then your neither a victim or witness and unless they want a statement there's no reason why the should come back to you.
The truth is the police will probably do nothing more and it'll all go away. The original theft is sorted as the property is recovered. Someone possible the person who sold it to you may have been charged with theft. They're probably not looking at handling as you haven't given a statement.
There is at this stage no reason to treat you as a victim as you don't live in the met area. Your local force clearly aren't interested either.0 -

I'm not sure if you've realised what Action fraud are there for yet. Their job is to keep you away from the police.
The police are over-stretched, and haven't got the resources to investigate every small fraud. So they set up Action Fraud. Action Fraud will log reports of fraud, and hand out crime numbers. If they don't see a pattern that looks like organised crime, then that is all they will do. Nothing will be investigated by anybody.
The case only gets further if they see a pattern of repeated frauds. Until then, you are on your own. Small-scale fraud has been effectively decriminalised, and is now a matter for you, the financial institutions and the civil courts. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I'm trying to recall what I did when I had an incident involving ebay and theft , though my situation was different.
I think I reported it to the police and got a crime number, then I rang ebay and told them what had happened.
Ebay won't let you talk to the " ebay police" .
A Police officer was allocated to the case and I sent him all the evidence which I had compiled myself( I don't think he read it properly ), but in this case it didn't really matter.
I had to push to find out what was going on.
Eventually the person was interviewed and admitted an offence which amounted to theft.
The police propose how they will deal with it, and get you to sign a form saying you'll agree.
I believe the defendant may have been invited in after this to make a statement, but may have been told that it wasn't mandatory to attend.
So it dragged on but nothing really happened..0 -

Surely you mean suspect and interview rather than statement, I'm sure PACE came before ebay.0 -
They are only the defendant once they've been charged with an offence. And once charged then (apart from some rare exceptions) they can't be interviewed further.
Before charge evidence can be obtained by interview or statement. A statement is a way of putting your case forward without the risk of it all unravelling when a skilled interviewer probes its inconsistencies0 -

Dear, Ebay
Date:
3rd August 2019
METROPOLITAN POLICE SERVICE
Telephone: Email: ********@met.police.uk
I am contacting you with regards to a recent burglary in which an Apple MacBook was stolen. This happened on the 9th May 2019.
The serial number for this is C02S****FVH3.
There were no lines of enquiries to investigate and the report was subsequently closed until 25th June 2019 when a member of Apple Highcross contacted the original owner stating that her laptop was ready for collection.
It appears that the laptop in question was sold on your website to a MR ***** on 19th June 2019. The original owner had not registered the device as stolen and as such has not had any markers placed on it via CheckMend. An NMPR check shows the same information.
I believe Mr ***** has innocently purchased the laptop and as it unfortunately had been stolen, is now back with its original owner. This means that Mr ***** is now out of pocket and out of a laptop.0
