Happyroly, that picture is beautiful. What are you planning to do with it once it is finished?

Still not made it to my stitching, and new series of Lost starts soon so can't see me doing any this weekend. Maybe tomorrow  There just aren't enough hours in the day.

I'll be getting it framed. Think it is safest place after all the hours that have gone into it............ I agree, there just aren't enough hours in the day! :D

    Thanks MrsM for those sites.
I was a naughty girl today and bought two big kits, a tiger and a lovely farm scene, from local shop, plus a lighthouse book mark to make for Uncle birthday. I am looking forward to starting tiger soon, but will do book mark first as Uncle birthday is soon! Just to finish my scissor keep first though! I love celtic stuff too.

    Evening all

I have finished the decoration I started yeaterday (just need to add the beads -but will do that at the end ;) ) -It was lots of back stitch -which I normally avoid

    2baubleia8.th.jpg

I have now started a 3rd one -after that I MUST get on with mums lady and my knitting :rotfl:

Orkney -glad you found some things you like :T
I did a big blue dragon wrapped around a celtic ring -the biggest one I have done yet -It was sooooo hard to give it to her -but she was thrilled as she didn't know I was doing it..It was about 22" tall ..there was another in the set -which I really should get.....:o
ooohh I nearly ordered that scissor keeper -to do for charity -but stopped myself -until I get some of the others out of the way

  • Lovely stuff there :) I've managed to do a teeny bit more to mine, but I have a feeling it'll be a long time before I get it done. Ah, well. Going to have a sit down later and do some more, even though I really want to buy more kits :D

I was looking at how to frame my angels when they're finished, and I'm hoping I've left enough space around the outside to do so - the evenweave keeps fraying :(

Next time you use evenweave -you can use masking tape to seal the edges so it doesn't fray.. ----or if you have pinking shears... snip along each edge ;)
When I do big pictures I always get my fabric at least 3" bigger on each side -so 6" wider and 6" longer than the design -it gives me loads of fabric to make framing easier

I daren't look at web sites, already too many kits waiting to be done! (but I did sneak a look at the Celtic scissor keep and then had to sit on my hands to stop myself pressing the "add to basket" button" )

I usually turn the edges over a couple of times and tack them to stop fraying.
Do most people use a frame? I used to but can't get on with them now so only sew freehand. Seems to work ok with the tension.

Goodness, this thread has moved on quickly today.

Mrsmcawber, my living room is purple at the moment. Was orange last time... if only I'd known:confused: Think by the time I have finished the set of eyes I will have run out of space downstairs though. I'll have to start working on the bedroom, but that is a deep crimson colour so orange won't go in there either. Well done on finishing your decorations by the way, they are lovely. And so neatly done.

Orkney, I too can recommend sewandso.co.uk. Their service is pretty impressive too. Take a look back through the thread there are several recommendations. I'll take the opportunity to suggest you look at celticroseneedlecraft.com too. I've only bought charts from them but there is loads of choice and I'm sure that they do kits too. Not sure what sort of celtic designs they do but judging by the name I guess there must be some in there somewhere :D

Happyroly, glad you will be framing your work, though I did like the idea of turning it into a shopping bag I think I would be too worried about rain or snagging ruining all my hard work:rolleyes:
I use a big square frame. It came as part of a big frame that stands on the floor but there is nowhere in my house to hide it away when I'm not using it so now I just use the actual fabric holding frame and rest one side on my knee and the other on the arm of the sofa. I hope this makes sense. I find it much easier to keep the fabric taught and I get a lot less knots in my threads.

Frugalswan, I think I may have mentioned before that I use double sided tape to frame my stitching. Mostly through laziness. My friend, who has only recently started stitching, started her last project in the bottom left hand corner of the fabric, leaving only 2cm around the outside edge. I was practically tearing my hair out at having to help her frame it but it actually worked really well. Now its in the frame you can't even tell what she did.

    Hope this helps you all

Oh I could weep! For years I have been trying to get hold of the Anchor Literary sampler kit (I love books and I love cross stitching), they stopped making it before I even knew it existed - I only found out about it after reading an old cross sticthing magazine. Today a friend told me she had seen a new unopened kit in the charity shop, so I raced down there as fast as I could only to find someone else had just bought it.

I've been weeping and wailing about it all evening but no-one here understands :cry::cry:
