Cross Stitch

Options
.... for anyone wishing to learn about cross stitch there is a plethora of information/free patterns/et al on the internet.

I shall link to some here:

Coats Crafts - How to Cross Stitch - how to form the basic stitches.

Classic Stitches ... diagrams showing how to form stitches, start and finish off + more

Learn How To X Stitch in 5 minutes with Yarn Tree - a quickie pattern to start you off plus written direction .. you will need to use one of the links above for actual diagrams though

Free bird designs - this includes a pattern from an antique sampler

Learning Cross Stitch Guide - this has an animation on how to formulate the stitches.

There are soooo many more, but, hopefully that will get someone started.

We could also use this thread (BG's allowing) to post questions and answers if there is enough interest perhaps?

Not exactly free, but the basic instructions are normally in Cross Stitch magazines.

They nearly always come with a free sample of something to start you off. Keep your eye out for a mini kit of something you can start sewing straight away.

There are some blackwork patterns here:

For those cross stitchers with little ones to make things for...here are some patterns for doll house furniture items made using plastic canvas.

Cross stitch mags can be picked up very cheaply on e-bay - I should know I'm about to flog a load. also car boots/jumble sales are good places for getting thread etc - again my OH cringes at the mention......... :rotfl: I have offered to teach him but for some strange reason he'd rather watch football - heathen
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

I buy the mags from a local market - 60p each or 3 for £1.50. They usually have quite a good selection. Ok, so they're not the latest editions - but hwat does that matter?

Men make great stitchers! They just tend not to admit to it ;)

I've sometimes found Aida and thread bundles in charity shops ... I get a bit sentimental then because I can't help but wonder if the only reason it's there is because someone has recently had to do a houseclear for some dearly departed relation :(

My dad can finger knit - and sticks his tongue out while he does. Um ... does that help?
