Slightly off-topic, but I know there are some cross stitchers around here so thought I'd try a post!

I am madly in love with The Snowman by Raymond Briggs, and want a cushion of it - but there are none for sale!! So I would like to cross stitch an image to make a cushion. I already have the book "The Snowman in Cross Stitch", and have chosen my picture, buts it a little too small.

I'd need it to be a few inches bigger - the book stitches it on 14ct Aida. Is it just a simple matter of going to a lower hpi - say 10 or 12 - to make it bigger?

Thanks for any help - I have only done little patterns up to now!

That's a very good question, gemmaj, but yes, I do think it's possible. I prefer the larger (ie bigger holes) count aidas anyway (my eyes aren't what they were), and I'll always sew a design onto whatever aida I have available (I prefer aida to evenweave and all the rest) and then find something to fit it to.

Why don't you give it a go and if it doesn't work, make it into a picture and try again?

is this any help if you put zero for the number of inches either side it will tell you exactly how big the piece of material that is needed.

So you can put in both 12 and 10 ct to see if it is the size you want.

Well it's kinda Money saving Old style but not as we know it!

I am due to host a dinner dance in 2 years time (bear with me, lol!) at which tradition states the ladies will be given gifts.

Have toyed with the idea of not giving gifts but giving money to charity but have been told that's a no brainer.

So the next best idea is do to a homemade gift (and as there's about 60 couples attending you can see why I'm thinking ahead!)

Anyway I would like to cross stitch a forget me not flower.. I've seen alot of chart booklets for flowers but they don't tell you what flowers the charts are for.

Does anyone know of a chart book that includes one for a forget me not?

You could always make your own design up from a gif file like this one:
