Toyota Catalytic Converter thefts.

I had my Auris hybrid serviced at a Toyota main dealer in July.
They made no mention of the fact that these cars were vulnerable to theft of catalytic converters.
In fact it turns out that this is a major problem of which Toyota (not me!!!) has been aware for years.
Toyota even have a Catloc device that offers some protection but they do NOT even bother to contact owners to tell them about it. Those who do learn (probably the hard way, like me) are charged hundreds of pounds for a modification necessary to correct a fundamental design fault.
Toyota should have recalled all affected vehicles and fixed them.
Their failure to alert their customers to this is disgraceful.

Are you seeking advice about consumer rights, or does this more properly belong on Praise, Vent and Warnings?

Do you have a consumer rights question? If not if only there was a board to rant.
  • The consumer rights point is obvious - Does Toyota's poor design and failure to alert owners when it could and should have, suggest that there may be a right to redress.

    Obviously it wasn't obvious.

And no right to redress whatsoever.

Maybe you'd prefer the exhaust to run through the passenger compartment.

How is this a 'poor' design its a cat which is on most petrol cars sold the last 20+ years.
Do those manufacturers have to state the obvious, its not their concern but yours. Just like a house break in, do you have a go at the builder!

This has been known for years. Amount of thefts depends on the price of the metals.
Hybrids are just a better target as it gets less use.
