I thought you did all your own work as you don't trust garages?

When I bought my Galaxy I paid £16K for it on my Switch card. It was a lot of money and I planned for it to be my first car that I would have serviced at a garage. I joined the Galaxy forum and discovered the desperate attempts that people were having to get it serviced using the correct oil. The VW PD engine needed VW505.01 oil. If you took it to Ford you would be incredibly unlikely to have the correct oil put in it. The VW dealers were trained to send you to Ford. As can be seen on this forum garages hate to be given parts. Some people took their own oil in but how do you know whether they used it? The garages are so used to lying. It's just normal for them. The customer can't prove what was put in. I just wanted the correct oil in my car and decided DIY was the only way to know it had been serviced correctly. So it's now had 20 oil changes and 3 cambelt changes. 14 years and 165K miles. Runs like new. Doesn't use any oil. The engine has had no other work done on it at all.

Anyone wanting OE parts at cheaper prices look at 7zap.com
You'll get the item and the various manufacturers part numbers (can be many for the same part).
Usually plenty of places to then buy from.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

If you were capable of taking brake pads out you would be doing the job yourself. So garages know that you won't be able to prove what brake pads were used. Taking it to a main dealer doesn't guarantee that they use genuine parts. Main dealers are out to make as much profit as possible too. If you can't do the job yourself the next best is to buy them yourself and watch a mobile mechanic fit them for you. My independent suggested I take my own but as you can see on this forum it might upset some garages hoping to make a killing by inflating parts prices.

    Absolutely
Our Citroen Main dealer offers Pads made by Citroen or Pads made by Eurorepar who are a distributor owned by PSA ( Citroen's parent company)
You would certainly be getting their cheap ones on a fixed price repair and and they may all come from the same factory anyway as may your third party ones.

The cost is roughly 100% more for the Citroen Branded ones
  • Can i just ask anybody please. i am now panicking that i didnt take my car to toyota for the brake pads and discs as its still under warranty. Obviously the mechanic i used didnt use genuine toyota parts.

Had a words with the mechanic today regarding being ripped off with parts and tonight a message on my answerphone from a chap in sales dept at toyota...he said no rush to return his call and nothing to worry about but could i give him a call.....although they have called before in the past several times trying to entice me into getting a new car.....(now i am being silly thinking horrible mechanic has informed them that i have had other parts fitted whilst its under warranty...such a coincidence that i get a message from toyota whom i have heard nothing from for ages on the day i had words with the mechanic and gave him a rubbish review on the good garage scheme.....

will these obscure parts fitted affected my warranty

No and maybe yes, for instance , say the wiper motor packed up, then the warranty would still be valid, if something occurred with the brakes (very very unlikely) the mfr could be pedantic.
Stop panicking though, the brakes have been sorted and you are good to go, or is that stop.
  • thank you.....

I think people think that the main dealer and the manufacturer are the same. If you have a garage you can apply to be a main dealer. It's a sort of business relationship. You put up fancy signs and then you can charge the customer daft prices for servicing. I think warranty repairs are paid for by the manufacturer. The one warranty repair I had (when they broke my bonnet lock) they told me they had to send back faulty parts to the manufacturer before they could be reimbursed. So I guess your warranty is fine for everything apart from your new brakes. They couldn't send your Juratek brake pads to Toyota they would have to charge you. Anything else they would be happy to bill Toyota.
