Price of brake pads and discs replacement

If main dealer price is £255 for genuine parts fitted, and the best independent using Eurocarparts stuff is £220, go to Toyota.
Bit late if it is booked in at £220 though.
Main dealers are actually competitive on bread & butter stuff, as they know you will just go to an independent, check with them first next time.0 -
I think my current car makes a mockery of the whole main dealership business. It's made out of all Volkswagen parts but then they put a Ford badge on it. So it was pointless taking it to a Ford dealer because it was a VW. "We are specialists in looking after your Ford." Great but it's actually a VW. I never tried taking it to a VW for servicing but apparently they were told to refuse to touch them. If you went to Ford dealers asking for parts they were always "OOh it's a special order part". That means they have to buy it from VW and then charge twice as much. An independent would happily look after all sorts. So an independent would be better than taking your VW to a dealership that was only used to looking after Fords.0

Ford Versailles?
Don't know of any other Ford badged VWs- yetI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

so i had the discs and pads replaced today...the independent garage and i think to be honest i have been ripped off with the parts. i feel money is made on his parts.
He used Juratek. i have tried to google to find prices but cannot find anything.
My invoice said the brake pads were £52.74 and the brake discs were £106.26.
I cannot believe he paid £106 for two front discs. almost £160 for front pads and discs. £75 labour £240 in all.
Juratek sound cheap to me.....oh well....toyota next time for anything.
ps - so just found somewhere supplying these online....around £20 for brake pads and £50 for discs....pairs
surely garages dont put money on the parts ??? sounds like he has put about £90 on the parts!!!
but maybe i am wrong...what do i know...he was a very defensive sort of man whenever i asked anything about parts or cost.....i saw the boxes on the floor when i arrived and just said......oh juratek, never heard of them and he just said, never had any problems with them.
have i been ripped off...female and dont know anything but hate being ripped off. i waited for the car (outside) on an old chair covered in an oily towel when i could have been waiting in toyota with an armchair, tv, newspapers and free coffee....it so isnt worth it to try to get something done cheaper......and it wasnt! Toyota would have charged £15 more.0 -

Thank you. I have undoubtedly been ripped off on the price of the parts...i dont believe somebody in the trade would pay £160 for a pair of pads and discs.0

Hi,
I think most independent garages will have a bit of mark up, as they probably don't carry a big stock and need to source the items for particular jobs.0 -
Of course they put extra on the parts, incredibly naive to think they don't. If you don't like being "ripped off" (your own words for a business making profit from you) then learn to do it yourself.
Next step is to grow your own veg so Tesco don't make any profit when you buy theirs.0 -

I expect a mark up - they have to be ordered and have been delivered to the garage but dont expect parts to be what they are making their income on. My last garage that i always used with my old car have rung suppliers whilst i have been there on loud speaker to ask the price of a part so they can quote me....i paid the price i heard them told. I have already paid him handsomely for labour - if earning in an hour what some people might have to work a day for isnt enough for them.....they are mechanics not brain surgeons. I dont like being ripped off and it appears that i have been.
your tesco analogy makes no sense/0
