Price of brake pads and discs replacement

Hi
can i ask whether £220 for replacing both front brake pads and discs on a toyota yaris is reasonable please.
i have decided to go to a small independent garage that has good reviews and this is what he will charge.
(i rang halfords who said it would be £146 just for the pads (didnt know my discs were bad at that stage).....and national tyres said it would be £96 just for the front pads (i decided not to go there as they didnt ask for my reg number to check the parts etc as halfords and the independent chap did and told me to just turn up - didnt like the sound of that. (independent said 120 for the pads and around 100 extra for the discs as well).
Have not approached toyota main dealership where i usually take my car as i know they are going to be expensive.
female and dont have a clue but hate the idea of being ripped off.
thank you
just looked at main dealer price list and toyota would charge 255 for front pads and discs.....prob should have just gone there to be sure of good parts.....

Everytime I have a service they tell me my discs and parents or do with changing.
I never bother as I think it's just a con.0 -

You should definitely stick with your parents, it's the right thing to do.0 -

Parts price on eurocarparts is about £100 for Pagid disk and pad components. Labour and VAT will take it to £200 ish.0

If main dealer price is £255 for genuine parts fitted, and the best independent using Eurocarparts stuff is £220, go to Toyota.
Bit late if it is booked in at £220 though.
Main dealers are actually competitive on bread & butter stuff, as they know you will just go to an independent, check with them first next time.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

My dad had his brake pads changed at the Toyota main dealer. The new one were awful. When he complained they said they didn't use genuine Toyota parts as they were too expensive. Is the Toyota quote definitely for genuine Toyota parts? Worth checking.0

Worth trying clickmechanic for a comparative quote.
Also worth RINGING your local ECP store and asking for price as frequently far cheaper than through their website - go for Bosch parts over Pagid. Nothing wrong with ECP as long as you don't use their bargain basement stuff.
Finally - if you were told they needed changing by your dealer, forget it - wait until it's either an issue on the MOT, or the brake warning light comes on. Dealers are notorious for telling you stuff is urgent when it can wait a couple of years!0 -
Had my first mot a few months back - toyota main dealership. On the advisory it said front pads wearing thin and that the discs were worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened.
I could tell my pads were getting worse and took it to the independent chap to fit the pads on friday (he was going to charge £120) but when he looked he said the discs needed replacing also, he showed me and showed me what a new disc looks like in comparison.....and i am in no doubt they need replacing. However, its only done 29,500 miles....
i think in future i shall use toyota...its all booked in now for tomorrow with independent garage.0 -

I dont know whether its for genuine toyota parts as its just a list of prices for each car on their website. Mind you, my discs are practically finished and only done 30,000 with the toyota discs.
They once replaced a tyre for me at a service and it was only £50 using a cheap brand.
i view garages like dentists, your life and wallet are in their hands and you never quite know what they are doing in there.0
