  • An irritating couple of days, spending-wise.

Molly the cat was under the weather, so of we popped to the vet. She was running a temperature and needed antibiotics, and the vet wanted to see her again the next day. £92. She isn't insured - I've never insured any of my cats, and I think over all I probably save by just paying as I need to. But still - £92. And they want to see her again next week.

And yesterday I forked out £2.50 on train fare to go to a local Farmers' Market/Festival type event. It started on 13th, and is on for a whole week, so quite a big do. It was supposed to start at 10, and I arrived at 10:15 - and basically nothing was happening. There were about 6 stalls in the 'Farmers' Market' (none of them were farmers...), and it turned out that lots of things didn't start until 12 although it wasn't at all obvious on the website. Very disappointing, and I found myself getting crosser and crosser. I wasn't the only one - two people stopped me and said 'Isn't there supposed to be a festival on?', and when I asked at the market if this was all there was she told me I was the second person to ask that morning!!

I needed to be somewhere else by 12, so couldn't hang around. I hadn't planned to spend any money, just have a look around, and I couldn't even do that so I felt my £2.50 was totally wasted. Not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, but very irritating nonetheless.

Hopefully today will be better - I've been to the gym already, which always helps, and now I'm off to work. Need to make sandwiches for lunch. Have a good Sunday. xx

  • ziggy when u have a week of appointments they do get tiring, I hate it when that happens but it is satisfying if u can get thru them. Had to rearrange a hospital appointment on Friday as I couldn't face the 3 1/2 hours round trip. Hoping you have a good few days away next week:)

Yorkshire lass it's horrible when RL hits u with a horrible amount of spending in one go:(.I've just had to buy a new washing machine, hoover and fridge freezer. Still need to sort out a new stairs and landing carpet. It just seems never ending. Hoping spends have stopped for u now but there is always something else that seems to come along. It's a good job we are on this great forum :)

Foxgloves cat thanking u for the meow:) much needed at a stressful time.

I'm glad to say things have settled down. Never have I had to do so much extra paperwork/statements because of factors out of my control. Still need to do some trouble shooting which is going great to be fun, not but unfortunately needs to be done but have a couple of weeks yet.

DD has a friend staying over this weekend. In fact there is a group of them.
Its a final get together before she goes back to uni but the one staying with us has travelled. Got extra bits in and as usual nothing eaten (will be stashed for Christmas:D) but they did have the burgers in the freezer that I have been trying to shift for awhile so that was a win win:T
Refused to buy cheese for the burgers, there was some of DDs leftover cheese, not a lot left but would have been wasted so used this for cheeseburgers. Went down very well for pennies

Washing basket went from empty to full in no time so have been making the most of the good weather to line dry.

Minimal hw to be done, DD and I tackled this on Friday
Some decluttering done. Really need to do a tip run but need energy for this!
Had an emergency scan the beginning of the week. GP being very cautious but everything good, just think issues I was having was down to the surgery

Banking all checked, everything good-still need to bank a cheque

Very little decluttering done, would like to get more done when I get chance but have stayed focused on keeping 2 bedrooms clean and clutter free. Makes a difference :)

Have been keeping an eye and price checking an item I wanted to buy for a wedding vow renewal. It went down £3 I snapped it up:j
Picked up a bulk pack of chicken breasts yesterday that were reduced. Will be turned into various things today. Slow cooker will be on the go!
Really need to do a small piece of paperwork, that will be done sometime today.

Think that's about it from me. Have a great Sunday everyone x

    Hello :hello:
Early start for car booting this morning. Bought a new (to me) K beater for my old Kenwood mixer as mine seems to be on the way out. 50p well spent there! Also bought some prepared hyacinths (for forcing in my lovely hyacinth vases) and some cooking apples as mine haven't happened this year :( as well as a few bits to sell on.
    Walked dog
    Biz paperwork
Stripped bed off and washed linen - noticed that the flat white cotton sheet I took off the bed is looing very thin in places and has some small holes appearing - will have to visit the haberdashers in the next town and buy some new ones I think (and they aren't cheap )
    Lunch was fridge shrapnel
Made some blackberry and apple jam :)
Labelled up a boxful of items to take to my sales unit tomorrow, and put them in the car ready :)

Dinner will be toad in the hole :)

Got to get the bedlinen in off the line and onto the airer in a minute I think.
Kitchen needs sorting out after jam and batter....

Also need to make the bed! It has been a lovely day, but nights and early mornings are quite cold now. It was foggy this morning too :(
Might get the winter duvet out and put on the bed.
  • Hi all

Busy weekend attempting to keep kids occupied (and quiet) whilst DH sleeps off his night shifts. Managed a NSD yesterday, which is the first I can remember for quite a while! :T

As for other activities this weekend...

    1. DH brought food home from work on both days (for free), which did dinners for the kids. I’ve made do with leftovers and using up everything fresh that looked to be on the way out.

    2. DH also came home with lots of lovely tips (totalling £15.48) which will be added to the sealed pot (opening day in less than 2 months! :j).

    3. Visited family this afternoon and got sent home with a bag full of pink lady apples from their trees. DDs spent yesterday in the garden picking all the raspberries and blackberries they could find, which are now residing in the freezer awaiting some dessert inspiration

    4. Washed 2 loads of laundry on a quick cycle and managed to line dry.

    5. Agreed with family to do Secret Santa for siblings and partners this year. Given that there are 10 of us, this should hopefully make for a much cheaper Xmas!

    6. Sorted a few of DH shirts that don’t fit anymore to give to nephew. Trying to regularly de-clutter a few items in an attempt to claw back my sanity...

Still have to hang up school uniforms and make lunchboxes for tomorrow.

Enjoy the rest of the evening all!
Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.
    Debt at highest = £62,842.59 (Dec 2018) - now £38,266.22 (28.09.25)
    Mortgage start Dec 2024 £247,069.59 - now £243,150.28
    Mortgage overpayment total = £300
    Emergency fund £1006.63/£12000
  • Evening
Apologies for the absence - I blinked and have lost a week being really busy at work. I will be back properly on next weeks thread.
Just wanted to pop on and say hello to everyone.
  • Dawn interesting to read about your cooking apples.
We grow 7 varieties of apples, 6 have done very well this year, our cooking apples have disappointingly produced nothing.
