What small DFW things will you do w/c 9th September

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!:money:

Morning, Everyone and thank you Ziggy for starting us off.
List of things to do today:
Check banking
Tend to plants
Charge phone and tablet
Take medication
Soup I made yesterday for lunch
Take bits and pieces from freezer, fridge and cupboards and make something for dinner
Change bedding and do washing (raining so it'll have to dry upstairs)
Thoroughly clean bedroom (have to find what Himself has done with a bit of the hoover)
Friends have kindly offered to do the shopping for the beginning of our holiday and bring it with them. Much cheaper than getting a delivery from Tesco. Must double check the list. A few light things I can put in my suitcase so I'll start gathering them together.
Have a nice day.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Nooooooo, my home insurance auto-renewed!! I now need to decide whether it's worth the hassle of trying to get the direct debit back and doing a comparison quote or just suck it up this year.
It's £155 and last year I got it for £130... I guess for £25 I'll not waste my time....:o
In good news...I was v sensible and renewed my mortgage without taking money out to pay off the loan as tempting as it sounded. Thanks CLF and DNMS for knocking sense into me!
And OH has decided to keep his car for another 2 years...
So all in all a pretty MSE few days...
What else:
- made courgette and blueberry cake with veg box glut. Don't really eat courgettes so this was a good use of them. Pal is coming round this afternoon so didn't need to buy anything
- HM oat milk
- Eating leftovers
- YNAB/check banking
- TOMM living room and general tidy up everywhere else
- Taking something back I'm not 100% sure on rather than keeping it 'just in case'
- Sorted a bag of junk (not quite sure how that is helping me debt bust tbh but thought I'd tell you about my achievement :rotfl:)
- Got a gro bag sleeping bag for baby - £14 from t k maxx rather than £35 in JLewis
Ah well, happy Monday everyone!
Thanks for the kick off Ziggy - I hope you're well. I can't believe it's raining where you are - my memories of your lovely city is that it's always sunny.
Catch up soon!0 -

Morning all,
Just catching up on here while I eat my lunch.....will probably end up getting quinoa salad slarmed all over the laptop. Big job list today. Money saving bits of it as follows:
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Cooked double quinoa so as to have basis of tomorrow's lunch sorted for me, as well as making Mr F' packed lunch.
*Leftovers for dinner as cooked double last night. Only need to make a salad.
*Updated grocery budget.
*Paid a spend off my 'Just for points' credit card & tweaked budgets accordingly.
*Remembered to take ham hock out of freezer to get into the slow cooker first thing tomorrow (it is the basis of 3 meals on our meal plan this week)
*Cashed in YouGov for £50.
*Did 3 x Prolific surveys. Up to around £24 on there again & only cashed in fairly recently.
*Confirmed days away in December & corrected cattery booking as we'd made an error.
*Emailed solicitor to thank her for clarifying something which had become unclear & asking her to action the next stage. Don't these things go on & on.....
*Load washer for a cheaper tariff wash overnight.
*Picked a bunch of grapes. Ripening quite gradually which means I am using them for my daily lunch fruit over a longer period than usual (Mr f doesn't like pips, so all the more lovely organically home grown Black Hamburg grapes for me!)
*Cast on next sock - stash project.
*Update DFW diary.
*Make use off a £5 off offer to order some spring bulbs for a few containers.
*Had planned to purchase some ointment for pets today but am not too happy with reviews & lack of info re ingredients so have saved my £18.
*Packed a Christmas present we purchased on holiday away in the presents bag.
Had planned to sow some seeds but it hasn't stopped raining here yet, so this may have to wait until tomorrow.
Best wishes to all, especially people feeling a bit low and/or rubbish.
F xx

Ziggy - I hadn't forgotten you asked me a couple of things:
1. Yarn Stash Challenge 2019 - So far I've knitted 4 x pairs of socks for Christmas presents, 3 x socks for Mr F (which he was v pleased about as 3 old pairs have had to go in the bin recently as completely worn out past the point of mending), 1 x pair for me, 2 x big pairs of hiking socks, 1 cotton dishcloth, 8 x different blanket squares with various patterns on them (flowers, hearts, stripes, textured, etc) & 1 x cardigan. The cardi didn't really suit me (or I didn't think it did), so I swapped it with my sis for something she'd knitted (a fab hat with Christmas trees on it!) as she really liked it although she 'had to buy a new black maxi-dress to go with it. Hmmmmm!)
Also on a big circular needle.......an afghan throw for a Christmas present. Am about a quarter of the way through it. As soon as this stash sock is finished (it will be this week), I must get on with finishing this much bigger project.
After that, I was gifted some beautiful traditional yarn & pattern book & will be knitting myself quite a complicated jumper. Already had to learn a 'channel island cast-on' for that, so am looking forward to it, as I can knit blimming socks in my sleep!
2. Books........I found Ellie Griffiths 'The Stranger diaries' in a charity shop last week for 50p. Haven't started it yet. Am about to start 'The Dollmaker' by Nina Allen. Just finished ''Someone else's skin' by Sarah Hilary. It's the first in the crime series featuring DI Marnie Rowe. I like the crime genre as I like to try & solve the mystery. I also read Ben Elton's latest novel 'Identity crisis' which felt very relevant to the times we're living in. And I'm working my way through Mons Kallentoft's Malin Fors series. I've read about half of them (Scandi-crime). I was gifted 'The cellist of Sarajevo' but haven't read it yet. I'm due at the library for a talk next week so I'm planning a nice long browse & might find a few new authors.

Just a quick check in. Certainly not been as busy as foxgloves, I'm still resting up but real life has been throwing some nasty things at me which has required letters/complaints/actions which is stressful in itself and haven't really had chance to read or post in the thread.
Not really managing to attack my original paperwork list, if anything it has increased and something this morning took me 4 1/2 hours to complete paperwork wise.
But have been trying to be MSE.
Out to morries this afternoon for a few bits-will stick to just what I need.
Been checking my banking. Everything good
Been working on reducing the ironing pile slowly. Quite a challenge as it's very slowly but enjoying the challenge
That's about it from me for now

I hope you're finding time to rest too.
