Evening all,
A lovely sunny day here and I think we made the most of it!
Today I have
* been to the gym for two classes and refilled water bottles as usual
* use up omelette for brunch
* moved furniture a bit more in the conservatory and am finally settled on the new layout (for now!)
* dh worked from home so no fuel costs/travel time
* posted rn survey items whilst on a quick lunchtime work round the block with dh
* tidied out the garage, made space for a wooden cupboard that we no longer need in the house. Put away all the tools we've used the last couple of days, keeping lots of bits of pieces of wood etc in case we need stuff in the future.
* lopped off a few tree branches, more light into my kitchen
* spent the rest of the afternoon in the garden, clearing space for a gifted asa (sp?) Put the garden furniture away in the shed, tightened up a few screws etc
* all meals from stores
Thats about it, Take care all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Hi everyone :hello:
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on here (returning to full-time work and 4 kids doesn’t leave much spare time!), but I’ve recently felt as though I’m losing focus on the debt-busting and need the extra motivation.
So, for today’s MSE activities...
1. Work day, plus £160 earned through separate self-employment. Half goes into the savings account to pay tax bill at the end of the year, but at least it earns me some interest in the meantime!
2. Practising driving economically again and got an extra 6mpg on commute than usual. Doesn’t seem like much, but as I drive 50+ miles daily I’m hoping it will soon add up.
3. Stopped off at Mr T for milk on the way home (we get through about 18 pints a week ) and resisted temptation to buy sugary snacks. Did pick up some extra fruit for kids’ snacks over the weekend. Total spend £6.50, which brings weekly grocery spend to £70.76.
4. DH had already made kids’ dinner before I got home, then popped off to his night shift. I used up some slightly worse for wear carrots, peppers, leek and leftover passata in a spicy veggie casserole for myself, with plenty of leftovers for tomorrow.
5. Lots of housework done, dishwasher on eco setting and load of laundry ready for tomorrow (will see what the weather is like in the morning to decide what to do with it).
6. Checked survey sites x3, PMP etc.
Just heard DS1 stirring upstairs so best be off...Fingers crossed he puts himself back to sleep :shhh:Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship.

Morning
I've been up an hour drinking coffee and surfing so will soon be time to get myself in to gear!
Things today:
* washing & line dry. Think I need to get the airer out of the garage
* will make madam some pancakes for breakfast. Will make a big batch and have some in the fridge for the weekend
* cut out fabric for a hoody I'm making madam. Did all the sizing, sellotaping the pattern pieces and cutting out last night
* going to suggest we go for a coastal park and to a big adventure play park today
* madam going to mil's this evening and we are going to a friend's party
* quick tidy round in a minute
* call vets and book booster jabs for pup
* might get round to doing a paid job shortly
ok that's all for meDF as at 30/12/16

Hi
This will be a tricky weekend w some carefull spending a swim, a run, garage tidy, garden tidy - what happened to rain?
And here is what really happened - it took me hours to organise the recovery quote, so it will only kick in at 12.30 tomorrow! After that I made hummus for lunch, quite nice. Went a bit overboard w shopping for homemade pizzas - but I have enough for at least 2x2 lunches left over after feed in all 3 of us. I also reshaped a bush in the garden, used some bark mulch I bought last year, washed the outside bin - smelly affair, and eventually I lost it on the offspring and they cleaned the kitchen while I went running - I might have gone a bit angry there ... but after sitting in the garden for a good hour w candles and looking at bats - they went straight back to watching netflix(not my subscription) - youth of today. I did some laundry but would be a joke as uni stuff is everywhere.
Pack up ds for uni, bring his stuff to uni huse tomorrow, see an exhibition or two, check on friend with health issues good and bad news.
Anyways 2 weeks into a difficult month i still have a bit of money left.
enjoy lovely day.
What a shuffle, so I might fret a lot about money currently, but I managed to get a years rescue cover - that I'm happy with from ST*RT for £41as opposed from Gr**n Fl*g which would be 82 w direct debit over a year, I hate direct debit on something . can just pay out right. So job done, managed to get decanter money out of paypal via an other bank account - paypal is weird.
So trip is all set up and sorted for tomorrow. Gas should be about £30, a small shop w bits for ds £20 an exhibition £10 and we might be home under budget.
Today is mainly for gardening and walking it's a lovely day.Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

Morning all
Looks as though it will be a lovely sunny day again, but it was cold overnight - I had to get up and close the window. Will have to think about getting the winter duvet out
DD and kids will be round soon I expect, and that places limits on what I can get done, but this is the plan:
HG fruit for breakfast (Done)
Usual boring clear up in kitchen Done
Get rid of piles of stuff on the coffee table Done
Clean mirror on antique cupboard as it is really dirty Done
Clean bathroom Done
Dinner in SC, a curry thing that I will adapt from a recipe to suit the ingredients that I already have. Done
Made Nigella's naan bread pizzas https://www.nigella.com/recipes/naan-pizza for lunch, for my version, I spread the naans with pesto (needed using up), added some chopped HG tomatoes, some mushrooms out of a jar, some grated cheese, herbs and black pepper. Only took 10 mins in the oven
Will leave it there for now, but it would be great to be able to add to this list later!
Got out in the sunshine to pick some blackberries this afternoon0 -
Afternoon all,
Not the nice little trip out we'd planned as decided we needed to sort out the freezer problem, but a few reasonably money saving things achieved:
*Parked in town for free, just by confining our shopping to two hours.
*Both the toiletries I needed to buy were on offer.
*Found a book on my reading list in Oxfam for 99p.
*Made sensible decision re freezer replacement.
*Picked more blackberries from garden.
*Mr F has discovered he doesn't need a whole pack of stewing beef for the recipe he's cooking tonight so the leftovers can go into another meal. That's quite a result, as his natural default setting would usually be to have a bigger portion.
*Socks finished, so will resume knitting Christmas present today.
*Found a new recipe to make for a Christmas gift.
*Update dfw diary - only go there if you are interested in damned freezer sagas, lol.
Enjoy this weekend sunshine, all.

Ziggy - I hadn't forgotten you asked me a couple of things:
1. Yarn Stash Challenge 2019 - So far I've knitted 4 x pairs of socks for Christmas presents, 3 x socks for Mr F (which he was v pleased about as 3 old pairs have had to go in the bin recently as completely worn out past the point of mending), 1 x pair for me, 2 x big pairs of hiking socks, 1 cotton dishcloth, 8 x different blanket squares with various patterns on them (flowers, hearts, stripes, textured, etc) & 1 x cardigan. The cardi didn't really suit me (or I didn't think it did), so I swapped it with my sis for something she'd knitted (a fab hat with Christmas trees on it!) as she really liked it although she 'had to buy a new black maxi-dress to go with it. Hmmmmm!)
Also on a big circular needle.......an afghan throw for a Christmas present. Am about a quarter of the way through it. As soon as this stash sock is finished (it will be this week), I must get on with finishing this much bigger project.
After that, I was gifted some beautiful traditional yarn & pattern book & will be knitting myself quite a complicated jumper. Already had to learn a 'channel island cast-on' for that, so am looking forward to it, as I can knit blimming socks in my sleep!
2. Books........I found Ellie Griffiths 'The Stranger diaries' in a charity shop last week for 50p. Haven't started it yet. Am about to start 'The Dollmaker' by Nina Allen. Just finished ''Someone else's skin' by Sarah Hilary. It's the first in the crime series featuring DI Marnie Rowe. I like the crime genre as I like to try & solve the mystery. I also read Ben Elton's latest novel 'Identity crisis' which felt very relevant to the times we're living in. And I'm working my way through Mons Kallentoft's Malin Fors series. I've read about half of them (Scandi-crime). I was gifted 'The cellist of Sarajevo' but haven't read it yet. I'm due at the library for a talk next week so I'm planning a nice long browse & might find a few new authors.
F xx
Wow, love the sound of all those projects, hope we get to see some pics.
Thank you for the book recommendations, have added them to my list - always on the look out for more crime writers.Goodreads 2025 Challenge :16/75
