I'm no expert - in fact I'm probably as clueless as the OP - but I always had it drummed into me that reverse polarity = possible electric shock - e.g. if you attempted to change the element without isolating at the consumer unit first.

And the OP strikes me as someone who'd attempt to change an element without isolating at the consumer unit first.

If the connector block as red and black for line and neutral presumably those horrors predate 2012. So the Currys installer must have just carried on as if nothing was wrong. Unless of course they reversed the polarity at the cooker end too ;)

It's not reverse polarity - it's simply not connecting into the correct (marked) terminals.

    OP replys' yet again

Why I'm deemed to be considered as attempting to change an element -is plainly wrong!
The internal wiring to the terminal which from my limited knowledge I assume to be wired from the electric box's in hall cupboard -I cannot and did not attempt to answer why their positioned at top into terminal block as per some earlier photo's
What I take responsibility for is matching up Neutral Earth and Live by colours at top.
+/- Polarity -not since mid 80's!
    Thanks

    Thanks - I did say I was clueless :)

Electrician to <5 mins connected and every led is working again-neutral was definitely a bit loose

I stand corrected; couldn't see why the lights wouldn't work if the rest of the cooker did! Glad you've got it sorted.

You did the right thing by matching up the wires as apposed to going by the markings on the terminal block. Considering your health issues, you didn't do too bad (apart from the loose neutral wire). Having the connector block shoved in a corner like it is probably didn't help matters.

I can't agree with that. It was very poorly terminated and left in a dangerous condition.
  • Oh dear, it is at times like this I dispair about the adviseability of forums like this.......
(coming to this particular thread late...)

Clearly Dandy has struggled and tried to do something for which he or she is not competent in that there was not the knowledge or expertise to do the job safely and to a minimally acceptable standard. Totally dangerous result and high risk of causing further problems.

Initial advice good, isolate (if that term was understood!!!!) and bring in a professional!

However that was ignored (at least in part) and even, perhaps inadvertantly encouraged.
As part of the issues with the work nobody even mentioned testing.......and lots more!

I suspect the electrician who came in and sorted the wiring out tested it after he/she was finished to make sure it was to standard.

I honestly cannot comment as realistically since 2012. -curry's installers would have noticed such a wiring issue?
