Unable to clear Clarity Card overseas ATM transaction before it shows on statement

I withdraw cash from ATMs when holidaying in Spain and this usually shows as a pending transaction within minutes but doesn’t show on the statement for a couple of days. I withdrew cash yesterday and went online today to pay the bill but I was unable to pay and got the following message: “Sorry, you can’t make a payment to your credit card account greater than the outstanding balance”.
I have always been able to pay before it shows on the statement but will now have to wait till the transaction shows on my account. It then takes a couple of days for the payment to show so will incur interest.
I’m not complaining because the interest will be pence, just pointing out the change.

This is why an account like Starling etc. should be used for overseas spending0

Overseas ATM can take a few days to debit on a credit/debit card.
A credit card will also take a day or 2 to show as a debit (will show as pending) UK atm. It's just the way Credit card systems work.Life in the slow lane0 -

As I said, I’m just pointing out that there has been a change.0 -
You could force a payment through, using the details on the statement, but that might create a positive balance, and breach the T&C's.
As you realise, probably not worth it.0 -

When you have cleared a atm transaction previously before it has debited. Have you had other spending on the card?Life in the slow lane0 -
Sometimes I’ve had purchases on the card and have cleared the balance. Other times it’s just been the ATM withdrawal.
Just out of interest, I’ll make a purchase on the card and next time I withdraw cash, I’ll try and pay it off before the ATM transaction appears on my statement.0 -
But how would the OP breach the t&c’s if the ‘available credit’ amount remained the same or less than the credit limit after making the payment?YorkshireBoy wrote: »You could force a payment through, using the details on the statement, but that might create a positive balance, and breach the T&C's.

I wonder if someone else shares this experience ? Clarity Card is a very good back up cash for cash withdrawal as it could be used in many countries.
In the past (not recent) I was able to put my clarity credit card balance in credit for a few days.0 -
I'm currently in France on holiday. Took several hundred euros out, tried to pay £250 through the app and got a server error message. Waited a day, tried again, it would only take £278 which was the current balance, and got another server error message. Fed up now I made a faster payment from my current account.
All 3 payments went through. I've managed to spend it though!
Going by my experience, you could pay the balance, then next day before the payment is showing pay it again.0 -
As it has been well pointed out earlier, for cash withdrawals cards like Starling's are much better suited.
The reason why I personally would abstain from using a credit card to do so is that such a transaction shows as cash advance in the credit profile. That's something I personally try to avoid.0
