I was going to ask the sort code & account number to pay to if you are making the payment from another bank, but I just found it on a statement.

Here it is, in case useful to anyone:
    Bank Sort Code no: 77-29-00
    Bank Account no: 00000000
Your reference number, which is your 16-digit account number

How quickly do faster payments take before they are applied to your balance? When I've done it before it took a day.

If you have already made a debit transaction which appears as pending and you send a credit transaction to cover it, then if the bank tries to say that the debit transaction takes longer to go from pending than the credit transaction and this causes you to violate the T&C then I would take that to the ombudsman.

I'd probably try it even if I made the credit before the debit showed up as pending, because I'm not in control of how long they delay applying transactions to my account. Especially if they want to charge interest from the date that I withdrew the cash, instead of when it gets applied to the balance.

I wasn't going to comment but ins't Faster Payment / Internal transfer (from LBG) the default remote payment method?

All issues on this thread are caused by using a debit card to pay with. That's one step away from posting a cheque each month.

Agreed. But just paying by faster payment would be too easy.
To OP. Unless you have used DCC the pending amount will not correspond to the exact GBP amount billed so if you repay before the transaction is finalised you will either under or over pay by a few pence so best to wait.

If its internal then 2 hours max.
But credit card systems only update overnight & often not over weekends.

Only hint is often available balance is including the amount you have paid.

  • I have found that Faster Payments are always applied to the my account the day I make them, if a normal working day and usually if not. However with some of my cards you do not see it online until later.

I'm not using Barclaycard at the moment. But when I did, I sometimes found that Faster Payments were credited BEFORE I made them! If I made a FP on a Saturday, it would sometimes be shown as received on the day before, ie Friday. Presumably there was some kind of batch processing going on with Friday's transactions being processed on Saturday - so they were playing safe by crediting them all as received on Friday. On one occasion a payment made on a bank holiday Monday was also shown as being received on the previous Friday.

I can confirm that I have paid using faster payment last week before my ATM transaction showed on my statement.

I've done this and paid via faster payment so that the credit is there at the same time as the cash is deducted.
