Hi all,
Mum has received a letter stating she needs to verify if she is still the sole occupier, she ticked that she is. She has now got another letter saying their checks believe I am still living at home but I am not.
All my Bills and accounts are to my mums address as it's the house I grew up I am at my nans house which they own.
This letter is quite threatening and it asks for us to provide evidence, I pay my nan money weekly but don't have any Bill's their in my name. What should I do?
Regards

The obvious answer is to show them your council tax bill at your nans!!0

I do not pay council tax at my nans, my nan and grandad pay it! I just give them money?0

I suggest you write a statement confirming that you live at your nan’s and that your nan writes a similar statement confirming that you live there. This may help (but may not be enough).
Is your nan getting means tested benefits such as Council Tax Reduction that might be affected by you living there?Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

To the OP: are you on the electoral register? If so, at which address? Do you work? If so, which address does work hold for you? What address does your GP hold? Your dentist? Do you use your mum's address for everything? Having correspondence sent to one address while living elsewhere isn't unheard of but you should be aware that Council Tax can access credit reference agencies records and if all your bills, bank accounts etc are registered to your mum's address then further explanation may be required.0 -
Change your bills etc from your old address to your current one.
Where are you shown as living on the electoral register - does that need updating as well?
if everything is indicating you still live at home, you can hardly blame the council for wanting to check. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Bank (santander) is registered here
I have a loan which I used my mums address
Work address is mums
I have always used it, all my accounts are just left as they were when I moved out.
My mum is worried they're going to backdated the discount0 -
I also do not have many Bills, everything is online.
Netflix
Gym
Bank statements (online)
Loan statement I could change and get sent
These are all just direct debits0 -
Please answer the electoral roll question0
-
I am honestly not sure, how do I check and/or update it?0

I can only echo what elsien has posted, you need to change your bills etc from your old address to your current one. Local councils do run checks on people who claim the single person discount. While you continue to use your mum's address it will be picked up on any data matching exercise that the council run.0
