92 in a 70

There was no observable difference between the 40mph stretch of urban dual carriageway and the subsequent 30mph stretch of urban dual carriageway and I was concentrating on navigating in an unfamiliar town rather than checking for repeaters... So the course was a gentle reminder about developing bad habits. But - you need to go into the course prepared to learn.Supersonos wrote: »True. And in your case, 37mph is an acceptable speed in many other situations, and I appreciate people can sometimes have a lapse of concentration. But would a speed awareness course change that? I don't think so.
AbsolutelyBut in the OP's case, nowhere in this country is it acceptable to do 92mph. And you don't need to look at your speedo to know you're going way, way too fast.
I can believe that - for those that took the course seriously and were prepared to consider that it would benefit them. But as Supersonos suggests - if the miscreant is convinced they are a brilliant driver then it won't make much difference. The evidence suggests otherwise.
Drivers are between 12 and 23 per cent LESS likely to speed within six months of taking a course compared to if they choose the points and fine. And those who participate in a course have a significantly lower collision rate afterwards than those who take the points.I need to think of something new here...0 -
I'm curious.Been naughty and got a NIP for 92 on the M25. Not denying it, I know it was wrong.
So, I've had no points for years, is this likely to be a court job or a hefty FPN and points?
How did you get caught? Was it on a mobile device or police car? Reason I ask is I have been driving on the M25 regularly for five years now and do 90mph often with others doing even more and I've never got a ticket. Were certain speed limits being used?0 -

No limit was being shown, I assume it was one of the gantry cameras?{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -

I had a motorway speed awareness course and I was flashed by one of the smart motorway gantries (was doing 70 when it was reduced to 60). When chatting to people at the course, they were ALL flashed by the overhead smart motorway gantries.
It leads you to think that the camera's are only active during specific off peak periods (because anyone that's spent even several seconds on the M25 will know the far right lane is mainly people doing 80+) as otherwise they'd be flashing like strobe lights.Know what you don't0 -
I thought the gantry ones were not even in use anymore. Was the picture they sent you showing your car from a high angle? I don't let my speedometer go past 95 and I've driven on the M25 going half way round at a near constant speed of 95 quite regularly and I've never been caught...No limit was being shown, I assume it was one of the gantry cameras?0 -
Gantry cameras are now being replaced by roadside units which can be activated at any time.
I've seen the one near Wakefield flash on numerous occasions.0
