Chicken curry and a basic mince in my cooker today, I will split the mince to make spag bol and shepherds pie base.  Love the fact I can cook 2 things in one cooker.

Can I ask how you cook two items at the same time? Do you use the slow cooker liners? I've used them a few times when I'm cooking something really messy or I'm feeling lazy... (My ceramic pot takes a bit of cleaning,  the metal one is easy but seems to get too hot to simmer for a long time.)

    beef casserole with cheesy dumplings!!
  •  I dragged by lazy carcass out of bed a few minutes earlier than necessary, and put a sausage casserole in before having my shower and leaving for work.

I chopped spuds and carrots last night. I'll be a dream when I get home to only have to cook veg

  • Well two days in a row.... Spaghetti bolognaise

I don't think I have ever done a two day run before.

But the guilt of having veg in the fridge that needed using, was keeping me from having a lay in haha

I haven't cooked 2 items at once but

Google has come up with these - made with foil and a liner I think
    made with all foil
I suspect you can also place 2 small bowls in the pot side by side and cook like that

and this for cooking small portions in a large slow cooker

I use the slow cooker bags 5 for a pound I think, just bung both of them in the one cooker. No mess to clean up.... perfect x

I don't know what either dish is in the top photo but I'd cut out the middleman and put it straight down the toilet. :)

Thanks to everyone who answered my question. I've had a slow cooker for years and wouldn't have ever thought of that! Does that mean placing a bowl inside with something in, it wouldn't get too hot and break? This a revelation to me. I have pyrex dishes. Could I use them and would you put water in the base as a kind of bain marie?  I'd love to try this as I like the idea of cooking two items in one batch. Would you just cook them for the usual time as one item. Thanks for your help and advice. (I searched back through the thread and noticed silicon dishes being used, wouldn't have thought of that either!)

I have never cooked 2 meals at once but i will look at trying it in the future
I suspect you would have to use a dish that would withstand the prolonged cooking, so a pyrex should be ok.
The water would have to be in the dish as you are in effect turning the dish into a small slow cooker.
As to cooking different dishes of different times etc the 1st 2 method listed couldn't be used as they are stuck together, but the 2 dish method could as you can lift 1 dish out carefully (put a length of foil/grease proof paper underneath like a steamed pudding)
