Hi everyone apparently I can use cheaper cuts of meat in the slow cooker because they are tender by the time they are cooked what meat would you advise for the cooker? Thanks, PsI have a meal cooking at the moment I used chin of beef with Veg it's my first endeavour x fingers
Shin of beef is a top quality cut, it would have been very tender and delicious, skirt is a cheaper cut, I look for y.s. bargains found some oxtail couple of weeks ago, any stewing steak, cheap cuts of lamb, breast, but lamb can be fatty, which I like, anything with chicken thighs is good, I tend not to use mince anything, so any other with packets, jars, herbs, veg of your choice, a particular favourite is a chicken curry, loads of veg, cauli and spinach is my like, I don`t serve rice as so much veg and I do like a nan.Do I need it or just want it.0 -

'Twas my plan Mr Singleton, however, I didn't plan on Mr. Lizzie deciding it would be a good idea to stir it..... :wall:Attempting £40 grocery only for the month of October.

I have a ham joint simmering away in mine at the moment. Made a really good beef stew in mine yesterday, 1/2 a lb of lean braising steak, potatoes, lots of carrots, celery, peas, onion, small handful of pearl barleya stock cube and just enough water to cover. Simmered it on low all day and just thickened it with a little cornflour. It was full of flavour and provided us with 2 good meals and two to freeze. Served it with crisp winter cabbage.
If I'm cooking lamb I usually leave it overnight and skim or take the fat off when it hardens. It improves the flavour leaving it and can be microwaved for a quick tea or frozen for later.0 -
My slow cooker is full to the brim with a brisket of beef cut into three, peppers, onions, tomatoes and a load of herbs and spices. It smells good already and it needs to cook for another 6 hours. I will shred the beef once it finishes cooking and thicken the sauce and then serve it with boiled rice and broccoli.0
