Which pc?

I need a new pc as my current one is on its way out. I want a traditional tower and a monitor included. I won't be gaming so it doesnt have to be powerful. I have found two that seem ok and are asking advice incase one should be avoided for whatever reason. My current pc has lasted 12 years, i would like a new one to be capable of doing the same.

Don't buy a PC without an SSD these days its just not worth it.
You want 8GB ram really too - both those have 4

Thankyou but please explain why. Pc techie stuff is all alien to me.
  • Neither... Look for one with a better processor, SSD drive and 8GB of RAM. Spinning rust hard drives are very slow, SSD is cheap and much faster.

As a guide price, refurbished Dell i7 processor, small footprint desktops, with an SSD, dual HDMI graphics card, new genuine install of Win 10 Home and 16GB of RAM were selling at £219 from an eBay trader in Sheffield (it-zone-1). Monitor and keyboard not included, but they are relatively cheap.

Just had a look through a few with ssd drives they seem to be all smaller in capacity. Why get a 128gb ssd when i could get one with a 1tb hard drive? Even if ssd functions better that's surely cancelled out by the low storage capacity isnt it?

Also can i ask for people to also humour me a little and state if they had to which they would choose out of the two. Still give the advice you want to give also. I really want to buy from the likes of argos, currys, dell as establshed names (that in two cases i could go to straight away and get one if i wish) rather than an unknown from ebay. Dont get me wrong i appreciate the tip. I also want it to be brand new.

My Dell i7 PC (that I mentioned earlier) has a 128GB SSD, it is using 56GB. A 256GB SSD is more than enough for nearly everyone. SSD drives are relatively cheap, £28.79 for a Crucial 240GB SSD (https://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ssd)

You don't need 1TB drives, that is marketing BS.

What's your current PC? It's possible that fitting an SSD (and maybe more RAM) will bring it back to life for relatively little cost. The existing HDD could be used for backup storage.

    Avoid All-In-One devices.

Buy from a supplier that can handle problems .
Doubt if Argos or the like would be much help on a PC .

Nothing wrong with brand new, just avoid Argos and Currys. Check out Amazon or John Lewis, DO NOT buy one with 4GB of RAM and a HDD, they are seriously slow.

Amazon have an end of summer sale (ends tonight at midnight). I bought an Asus laptop from Amazon a couple of days ago that was £100 cheaper than anywhere else, although I can't see desktops in that sale. FWIW, I bought the ASUS Vivobook S15 i5 (8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) laptop at £499
