Massive problems with Green Network Energy

I am moving tomorrow, started the switch on 2 August, got all the welcome bumf, then noticed they'd started my switch on 23 August and have taken money from my account 1 week early, so I am still paying Scotpower here and GNE on a property to which I haven't moved yet. I did ring GNE to find out WHY my switch was completed before I'd moved. Adam at GNE says it's MSE's fault and MSE has to contact GNE to resolve it. I cannot find a way to contact MSE to explain all this? What an expensive and frustrating mess while I'm up to my ears with the frustration of packing and moving. Any ideas anyone?
When you move in somewhere new you by default become a customer of the supplier who already supplies that property, entering into a deemed contract. You must make contact with that supplier once you are responsible for the property (as you are already a customer of theirs by default) and set up an account with them. Once this is done only then can you switch that supply to another supplier.
What you must not do is instigate a switch from a) a property you are not responsible for or b) away from a utility company you have no contract with. It looks like you did this.
Electricity/gas supply is for the property, not the person.
You have not moved your current contract from Scotpower to GNE. You remain under contact at your current property with Scotpower. Instead you have moved your new property (which you are not yet responsible for) from its existing account with its existing owner with its previous provider (which may or may not have been Scotpower) to GNE. When you move out you must contact your current provider Scotpower with closing meter readings so they can close your account. That aspect is still salvageable. I’m not sure how to correct the issue with the new property other than informing GNE that it was a huge mistake.0 -
dlive - perhaps you could give us the actual consumption in this period and details of the BG and GNE tariffs.
I doubt that BG is twice as expensive as GNE
Ive just dug out the paperwork:
BG:
£562.50, 2 Apr - 5 July
Usage: 2664kwh
Unit Rate: 19.143p/kWh
standing charge: 27.115p per day
GNE
£298.50, 5 payments from 20 march/apr/may/june/july (which they refunded)
Unit Rate: 14.810p/kWh
standing charge: 18.39p per day0 -
So, do I have any further recourse or is the Ombudsman's desicion completely final?0
-
So wher does the double the cost come in - 19.143/14.810 is 30%; 27.115/18.39 is 47%
You have a very high consumption = 2664 kwh (I assume electric) in 3 months is what many use in a year. Are you sure its right - not based on ESTIMATED readings perhaps.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
My calculations make the GNE use equivalent to £432.42, so yu weren't charged by GNE for the full use.
[(2664*0.14810)+(94*0.1839)]*1.05
(Slightly different if the quoted rates already include VAT)
The BG cost is correct, which means the difference between the two is about £130, or £100 after the £30 payment. It's little consolation to you but it's not quite as bad as £300.0 -
Yes, of course BG's bill far exceeds the poultry £30! By nearly £300!!! Hence why I have an issue with it!
I dont know if its me being unreasonable, but surely I shouldnt have to pay BG's excessive bill!
I did my research; I signed the legal paperwork./contracts; paid the monthly bills. But through no fault of my own it turns out it was all a charade and I was never moved and so now owe over £550 to BG!Ill need to dig out the paperwork (luckily I keep everything). I know with GNE (which has turned out to be entirely bogus!!) was 14.810p/kWh
But yes, BG's bill is about twice as much!
What recourse do I have? the ombudsman desicion is basicaly saying that they can give me £30. But through no fault of my own (entirely GNE's fault!) they messed up the transfer. And despite the contract I signed into; the confirmation documentation; BG confirming the supply was being transferred to GNE; money debited from my account each month etc... It turns out that Ive ALWAYS been with BG and so have to pay their high rates which is EXACTLY why I moved away!! Ive done nothing wrong and yet being penalised. Worse still the Ombudsman cant see how unfair this is and so obviously in cahoots with the energy suppliers. I really dont think you could get a more 'cut and dry' case as this!!
What recourse do I have? I bet I have none. Another consumer ripped off and stitched up.
The stupid thing is that I still want to go with GNE, but I think they should discount the balance between their bill and BG's.So, do I have any further recourse or is the Ombudsman's desicion completely final?
It does seem to me that you are being unreasonable.
Let me reiterate again.
In your OP you state that the ombudsman upheld your complaint.
Did the ombudsman uphold your complaint or not???
When you complained to the ombudsman, you were asked what outcome you were seeking. Did the ombudsman uphold your complaint or did they not?
If not, why not? They always give an explanation.
If they did uphold your complaint, then what more are you expecting? You don't get 2 bites of the cherry. (although you were under no obligation to accept the decision)
Have you acceped or rejected the ombudsman's decision to uphold your complaint?0 -

Youre obviously not getting the main thrust of the argument are you? Unless youre just being deliberately combative.
Im trying to get this resolved and the other posters have posted some helpful posts.
2664 kwh does seem very high for 3 months. Im currently establishing if that's 'estimated usage'.0 -
So wher does the double the cost come in - ...
I suspect the OP is referring to £562.50 being almost twice as much as £298.50
We went to Asda yesterday and bought some petrol. It only cost us £5.00
Last week we went to Tesco. They charged us £25.00 - 5x as much. !!!

Correct, I'm not getting the main thrust of your argument.
But no I'm not just being deliberately combative. I am trying to be helpful towards you resolving this. But I cannot acheive that unless you are prepared to answer my questions.
Why have you not answered my questions? Are you the one just being deliberately combative?0 -
Ive just been on the phone to BG:
2 April 2019 an estimated meter reading of 30302
5 July 2019 they read the meter 32966
So 2664 kwh used!!
Ive just read the meter which is 33403
So 437kwh over the past 2 months.0
