Oh heck the consultant phoned me this evening to offer an appointment next Wednesday to see DS! I am pleased but this is all happening so quickly.
he said the assessments they have done have left several 'loose ends' that need tying upMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Just wondering if any of you more experienced mums have any advice.
My son who's 7 is having a bad time. He always struggles with Easter, Christmas etc due to lack of routine etc.
He's having loads of outbursts. I've just sent him to his room for being persistently vile to his brother and he lost it and was cracking his head of his radiator.... He's also been making threats, saying he wants to kill himself, throw himself from his bedroom window etc.
I feel like I don't know what to do for him. He's very low-key now.
Isn't it depressing?!0 -

just done an asd course at my local childrens mental health clinic and they showed me some great new behaviour helpers, and one is to use an iceburg exercise, if you are interested, its too much to post here, but i can post it to you ... pm me i can honnestly say last year i was so desperate he was sitting on my bathroom window sill and screaming i want to die, self esteam so low and just finding the whole world just too much for him, hew is now nearly 11 and thanks to these new ideas and omega oils we have a much better kid, i am happy to post this stuff to anyone , pm me if you are interested, its alll about whats going on under the surface and how to work it out... 9/10 ths of an iceburg are under the surface so its a good analogy, you can look at the top ( iceburg) or the behavior but this helps you se why and how to stop it cause you can see what you cant... does that make sense... its better in writting well theirs not mine.totally debt free:j and mortgage free too 20100

Rovers, we have had this today too - a very violent outburst followed by hitting himself and saying he is going to kill himself. It's so upsetting.
Autismmum, that course sounds great - is it just something that is run locally to you, do you know? I am trying to find some sort of course to help me deal with Ryan's meltdowns, as the level of aggression is getting rather scary recently. Although we are also starting to notice some food triggers to some of these, so I'm hoping if we can eliminate certain things from his diet, we might see slightly less of it.
Does anyone else find certain foods make the meltdowns worse? M&Ms are TERRIBLE and I suspect coco pops might be too, but it's difficult to tell as he only has them as an occasional treat anyway.
(((hugs))) to all that need them. It helps me to think of Ryan as the tiny baby I held in my arms and promised to love and protect with my life. I know my beautiful baby is still in there, even when the anger is in full force."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Snaggles, your last paragraph has brought huge tears to my eyes.....
Have you asked the National Autistic Society about their Help courses? I went on a one day one last week and it was great, general info for newly diagnosed children. I'm going to one in July in Birmingham on Managing Anger which can't come soon enough! They are nationwide courses, the NAS will give you the number of the local Help group. Would definitely recommend them.0 -
Thanks Rovers, and I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry.
I'm still a bit lost with what help is available, there are lots of websites and support groups, but it's just knowing who to contact about what.
I will have a look into the Help course, that sounds like a good starting point for me, thanks.
Hope you have a calmer day tomorrow. xx"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Aww snaggs, hope it is a better day tomorrow for you too.
I have worked in a school for children who have autism and aspergers and there is great support for the food sensitivity problem. However, it was found that a lot of the children who also are extremely OCD will only eat certain foods- therefore making it an uphill struggle, so i can sympathise.
With regards to courses- i do know that a lot of the higher ed institutes run them and they can be booked up in advance, but as the courses are popular they are always bound to repeat them. My last course was at the University of Cumbria and i think i found the link through the Autism and Aspergers website.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0
