Justontime, What an excellent post. You should write a book on your experience of having a child with aspergers .I found your post fascinating. A great insight for people like myself who are trying to understand different characteristics of aspergers syndrome. Thanks.

Funny you should say that... I do write a blog, but it is mainly about my husband - by the time I have written about him I don't find his 'uniqueness' quite so hard to tolerate and the urge to harm him has usually passed! Sam isn't keen on being mentioned in the blog too often. My first husband, my children's dad died of cancer in 2003 having only been ill for 3 months. It was hard for all of us, but sometime later I met and eventually married my present husband. There was something about him that reminded me of Sam. He has no diagnosis, but I am certain that he has aspergers. He loves being a little more unique than the rest of us and he is very happy to be the subject of the blog. Most important of all he is a brilliant step dad and is very supportive of Sam.

    Hi justontime,

how wonderful of you to share your experiences with us. My son is only 3 and I am usually comeing on here and asking, does you child do this and that so it is really helpful when someone like yourself posts as it helps me see what my son is doing too. (hope that makes sense) I have noticed that Ryan calls things literally as well, an exhaust pipe he calls a smoke hole as most are hidden these days, he can't see the pipe so no matter how many times I tell him he calls it a smoke hole. LOL. I did LOL at your son with the hamsters - moreso that I could see your face when he told you they had mated, bet you was looking forward to the patter of tiny paws!! It also sounds like you have found a wonderful man to look after you and your son. Thank you once again for sharing.

Thanks Strapped and Myusernames taken, I always shorten the names down but how many more of you have deleted it after they realise what it shortens too, LOL, I have to say with not having a diagnosis I was surprised tht they would offer this after just a referral, not dx, but pleased as it means that we can use our clubcard vouchers to go - I've been saving them for Florida but am not going there now unless we win the lottery, LOL!! I am stunned that I would get in for free, impressed that they would do this, but tht was not my intention and I feel a bit embarrassed as that is not what I was asking him and I did not want him to think I was angling on free tickets. I can't beleive how much easier this would make a day out and it means we can actually go places.

I am so glad I could cry - I am on the edge today and feeling very emotional, PMT and my situation not working too well today I guess, I am starting to pack up the 'belonging' of my business and I think realisation has hit, I have been saying it for ages, but I don't know, today has been a bit odd and I think I have realised that we don't have long to go until we have to leave. Just feels a bit weird I guess.

Hi JOT, Just a little history - we have 5 Ryans on this board. I have noticed that whenever we go anywhere the only kids getting yelled at are called Ryan!! And the BBC just added another, LOL!!
  • the card for people to get into cinemas do they do this kind of thing for theaters to dd2 actually quite likes going to them for ballet and panto's never knew about the card thing before .Wish when you go places like camhs they tell you all this sort of information, you find it out from all over the place in bits and bobs would be so much easier if you got it all together.

They don't do a card for theatres, but each theatre will have its own policy on reduced prices for disabled people and their carers. You'd need to contact the individual theatres to ask, or look on their websites.

  • Thanks decided if dd2 is taking day of school for this book signing will take her to see panto again she was so good last time must be the John Barrowman influence that made her not keep asking for loo or something every 5 mins (mind you i'd be very good to but only if he asked me such a shame he's gay so no chance there) Hope she doesn't say anything she shouldn't but decided not to care and if she does will just say why they just have to take her as she is every body else does
