TalkTalk charging for emails!

It is rather immaterial since when they started trading or providing email services, it is the hassle they cause to customers for 2+1bit email domain migration. Just a 2 months job if they hire an experienced contractor imo.Tiscali haven't existed since 2010 so that's 9 years that you have had so far to migrate your email addresses, how much more time do you need....0

When TalkTalk took over Tiscali I was with BT for phone line and was happy to carry on like that paying for a stand alone broadband connection with TalkTalk, but eventually the price of broadband on its own became too expensive so I moved my phone line to TalkTalk too in 2014. I had problems from the start with low speeds and regular drop offs, and after the data breach I became less and less enamoured with them and moved ISP in 2018. So up until then my Tiscali email was free so I had no need to move, and given that all my contacts had that address, including banking, medical, insurance, HMRC, work contracts, etc, it seemed like a lot of hassle moving if I didn't need to. Now, of course, it's either pay up or move, so it's a no brainer really.0 -
Is this spam? I use an old tiscali address for business.

I think it may well be spam, any correspondence would be from TalkTalk and not from Tiscali. Have you received any emails to your Tiscali addresses that tell you about having to pay for services? Any genuine ones have a little padlock icon to show they are from TalkTalk and not spam. They would be sent from <info@consumer.talktalkplc.com>
I think your best bet would be to have a look on the community forum I talked about above. https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Email-Webmail/bd-p/myemail You don't have to be a TalkTalk customer to join and the OCE's on there will be able to answer any questions you have.0 -
Update:
On one of my TalkTalk e-mails I've now been told that in the next few days; they will downgrade the service (unles I sign up) and I will only be able to access it as webmail - not through e.g. Outlook. So that fits with the extended deadline of 9 Nov but it's not being completely withdrawn.
On the other - I've now been told that It has been upgraded (this is the third time they've told me and I see no great improvement) but if I don't sign up they will withdraw the service on 3rd Jan 2020. Are they trying to outdo Brexit for extensions or something?
Update 2:
The account which was supposedly degrading from 9th November is still working.
The account which was supposedly dying from 3/1/2020 is now going to be switched off "in the few months following 1/1/20"
I'm using that second one mostly for freebies, competitions and always planned to throw it away anyway when it got onto too many spam lists. I'm confident I've got everything crucial moved over so I'm now just watching in amusementI need to think of something new here...0 -
Update 3 updated:
First account is now going to be cancelled as of 10th March.
Second account unchanged.
Despite the fact that the latter is actually the older account - maybe because it has more traffic.I need to think of something new here...0 -

The customer has left the provider, the provider has to pay money to run the email service so why shouldn't they charge for it?

Hi,
We have recently invested in our email platform to give it a sizeable upgrade to improve the service, security and functionality.
As part of this, we no longer provide a free mailbox to customers who don’t have a broadband contract with us, however we still provide email for free to all Broadband customers.
Customers can keep their mailbox, email address and messages for a small monthly fee by signing up to our new TalkTalk Mail Plus plan. Or, you can upgrade to one of our great value Broadband packages to maintain this service for absolutely free. Further information can be found on our help page here https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Articles/About-TalkTalk-Mail-Plus/ta-p/2374203
If there is anything further we can do to help, you can contact my team directly over Twitter (@TalkTalk), we'll look straight into this for you. You can also reach us on our Online Community.
Thanks,
Jo – TalkTalk

I do not think it is as simple as that. There is something called USO (universal service obligation) coming for both broadband and telephony service providers. An email address, in my view is a basic unseparable entity that is linked to a service & a fundamental need of electronic communication for a consumer - especially those who started their service in 1995-2000s.Removing or charging access to email could be similar to removing a master telephone socket from home.mattyprice4004 said:hpuse said:
