You expect TalkTalk to provide anything that could remotely be classed as useful customer service?

I haven't had this yet... I had a lineone.net account but haven't touched it in a decade or more. I do still use 2 different tiscali.co.uk addresses but no message so far.
Well I finally got the e-mail on 16th Sep to both of my tiscali addresses - telling me I'd have to pay from 1st October. Given that over the last few months; the webmail service availability has fallen off, the spam filters are unreliable and ads are more intrusive... I'm certainly not convinced to pay for their service.

Spent a couple of hours last night moving all important contacts to my current ISP and have set up a clean gmail for competitions and throwaway stuff.
I need to think of something new here...

You should have done it the other way round, you'll face the same problems next time you want to change your ISP.

This is where you are making the same mistake again, you need to be using an email service not connected to any ISP as your main email because you will have issues when you switch ISP.

Just use a Gmail account as your main email.
  • All this fuss because a company don’t want to keep giving away a service for free?
Running servers isn’t free, tech support isn’t free. If you want it, pay for it.

I used to work for a provider that charged ex customers for email and legit had complaints saying we were ‘ruining their life’ by taking away a free address, it’s ridiculous.

    I also had the email.

I was with Tiscali, and then moved to Talk Talk. However, they decided to sell off rural contracts to Fleur Telecom, as they couldn't be bothered with them.
  • They got very annoyed when I contacted them to check to see if it was a scam ? I've got an old tiscali email address, and had their warning email( "It's NOT A scam!" ) . The choice is £50 a year or £5 a month. Based on their appalling Customer Service record, they have to improve their revenues to balance the falling number of Customers.

It seems unlikely that a company would promise to provide free email even if your not a broadband customer of theirs. When and how did they make this promise?
Well Lineone did. They gave out software on launch in The Sunday Times in1997 which included a free email account.Obviously when Freeserve offered internet for free they even had to offer internet free.Tiscali bought Lineone then TalkTalk bought Tiscali knowing they bought a company offering free emails.Charles Dunstone, Carphone Warehouse(TalkTalk) Chief Exec promised users the service would continue.
  • Like many of you I have been using lineone and tiscali email addresses for free since the late 90s. I am not upset that Talk Talk decided to charge for them. However, I am annoyed that I cannot close them without opening an account with Talk Talk. I find this so absurd. Register in order to unregister. Every other email address has an option to close the email address from within the webmail settings. I hope deliverance will come soon.
