Sorry to hear about your bad new, probably just a bad time made worse by you wanting to leave the store in a rush, where you were probably chased by a member of the staff.

More likely thought you were a thief and wanted to stop you.

The OP is gaining as he is buying decent fruit at the price per kilo of damaged fruit. To reiterate the OP said they were priced per kilo not per bag.

I'd missed that bit. I thought the bags were already priced up. In that case OP should have paid for the bag as was, take the banana out afterwards and then leave it. Rather than take it out first. Would've solved a lot of problems.

correct mre if i'm getting this wrong, but aren't tescos saying here are our unsold bananas, lets discount them so we can sell them quicker. oh no, this banana is rotten!!!!! we can't sell it so we're going to loose money.

i know, we'll but the inedible banana in with the edible ones and sell them. no matter how much it's discounted, to me that's just wrong. the goods weren't fit for purpose:confused:

and why do i keep wanting to put an extra n in banana. sod it, i'm chucking the ones in my fruit bowl now. i can't stand to look at them anymore:rotfl:
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

Regardless of this the staff do not have the right to assult/detain customers for this - this is my point.

And just to be clear the banana was most definitely unfit for sale. I would upload the picture but I dont want to jepordise any legal action that may occur.

And as I said its not about the bloody banana!! Its about having the right to disagree with whats being sold without being assulted, harassed and illegally detained. Some people seem to have missed the point that I have been treated appallingly. Had a sleeples night last night because of all this and im still feeling shaken up today.

Stop arguing about the banana and look at the bigger picture - as one poster pointed out howd you all feel if it was your mum or gran this had happened to?

In the end whether I agree with the OP and the way he did things or not, it doesn't change that the staff's actions were completely in the wrong and nothing the OP did justified them.

I do not think that anyone will disagree that you were badly treated by the staff and I hope you will post back what the outcome is after the police are involved. No-one, customers or staff should be assaulted.

However, I still maintain that you were in the wrong to remove the banana.

You could have said to a member of staff that you thought the banana was unfit for sale. They may then have removed the one banana or the whole packet, but you didn't give them a chance. You decided on a course of action which precipitated this unfortunate turn of events.

Unbelievably easy to resolve: "please leave the store". The OP is right that the whole banana issue is really a moot point. I think what the staff did far outweighs any disagreeable behaviour of the OP. It's not as if he "got away" with the bananas.

Agreed what the staff did was inexcusable. Which is why I would like to hear what the cops have to say
