  • Good to have made a decision on the job - have to do what's right for you and your family. Hope you do manage to get some tax back. It's hard juggling commitments. Great that you can OP without working outside the home though.

Thanks SavingH. It just wasn't the right job but I've no doubt something else will turn up!

  • :money: Lovely swirly Martin for me. Just did a price comparison for electricity usage and have saved €368 per year on electricity (including €150 cashback in first bill). The first bill will be due in Nov so that will come in very handy as my gas will go up with heating. I already changed my gas in May so can't do anything until next May. Am chuffed with that. I need to look into getting rid of Sky next!

  • I think my first concrete aim is to get under 50K before the end of the year.

  • Another NSD today! I met a friend at the school run and invited her back for a cup of tea. I hadn't brought my purse with me and I knew my house was relatively tidy. We had a good chat and I'm proud of myself that I didn't go out for the coffee.

This weekend should be a relatively low spend one. Have been invited to a friends for dinner on Sunday but will probably bring a bottle and pick up some flowers for her.

Next week will be a spendy one as DD turns 8 so will need to pay for her party. It has all been budgeted for though.

  • The income figures are an estimate as we haven't had a month yet with new incomes/tax so will change it as it gets sorted out.

Council tax: we don't live in the UK so no council tax. Bin charges are not changeable as there is only one bin company where we are

Sky TV - am in the process of changing it and am aware it is too high

Gas/electricity - have done a price comparison and both are the lowest they can be

Groceries/entertainment - non-negotiable although I am trying to make more items from scratch and use what I have so can be revisited

Holidays - very conservative amount. We tend to go on one main holiday per year and a few mini breaks. This is to cover the mini breaks. We are going to Oz Xmas 2020. Hoping to use H's bonuses to pay for this

Other child expenses are for swimming lesson etc.

Car insurance is coming up soon so will shop around but is fairly typical.

All the amounts are in euro, not sterling

Going to echo everyone else, I think you made the right call on the job! You could always maybe look into matched betting to increase your income? I didn’t have anywhere near enough confidence to do it myself mind, by the time I’d chose a bet the odds had changed!

Hope you have a lovely weekend and DD has a fantastic birthday. I can’t beleive she’s 8! Both her and your DS are barely older than my DS in my mind :o
  • Looks like you indentified areas that you can reduce already, good news on the electricity. What do you class as Entertainment? Is there any way to use vouchers or special offers.

A holiday to Australia sounds amazing! Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

HI CMD - noted your comments above :) I still would look at groceries, insurances, mobiles, clothes and entertainment. Having said that - DH and I allow ourselves £100 each personal spends and still have a dining out and days out fund of £50-100 each so we are probaby close to your costs in practice. I do pay lower insurance costs - but as you say you are in Ireland... so no idea on typical costs there. We allow ourselves £25 pcm for clothes each - but pay it quarterly so it feels more - anything more is supposed to come from personal spends or by cutting back on groceries.

DH and I are now on pay monthly sims for about £6 each. DD has a more expensive contract though... I think in future we want to buy mobiles outright so we don't get sucked into expensive contracts...

Thanks Cinny. Not sure I'd have the confidence for matched betting myself!

It is this week that is DD's birthday. Can't believe my baby will be 8 the years are flying.
