    PS3 for me, purely because it has more powerful hardware and if games were to be developed tht pushed both consoles to their limit. the PS3 games would look much better.

    Not to mention the fact that I literally don't know one person who is still on their first 360, they've all had them break down and need replaced (a couple are on their third xbox) because of the poor design with regards cooling. The latest 360's it is claimed have combatted the problem but they've not been around long enough to tell if they're not going to stop working after a year.

    Lol i'm struggling to find people still on their first ps3:eek:

    i had to make do with jet set willy and an orange.
    Back to topic, wii held my attention for 30 mintues.
    360 top stuff.
    ps3 i bought one and at the moment I have no idea why.
    What have his/her mates got. Although xbox live has its faults the ps3 is pretty ropey online.

    sell the xbox and get a dog. It'll get you out the house more!

    Please don't give a pet for Christmas, they are not toys. ;)

    But, do buy a PS3.

    to say a console is only good for online play is silly. how many millions did the likes of the sega megadrive and ps1 sell? regarding the reference to the problems some 360s have had. with regards to the point saying that the newer versions havent been around long enough to know if the fault is really fixed. well that is true but the ps3 hasnt been around very long so how do we know that wont develop some sort of fault. i remember the ps1 having a problem with the laser dropping.
    i am not saying that having a 360 is a better idea coz if i could afford it i would have both.
    by the way on my 360 the manufacture date is 2007-11-3, does that mean the 11th march or the 3rd november?

    Theres a lot of nervous 360 owners on here !!!:rolleyes:
    Research the correct purchase for your needs on google. IMO the 360 is the console at the moment but a visit to argos will tell a story, just pop in the stock number for the 360 & the ps3 into the terminal and you will notice that the 360 has no stock shortage unlike the PS3. A word of warning though, check out the failure rates out of the box for the PS3, since they have brought out the 40gb version with no backward capabilites its been running around 40%. Thats why the 60gb are so much in high demand, not supplied offically to uk anymore but still hard to get hold of internationally.
    Like another member said in an earlier thread, 360 2 years old now and PS3 nearly 1 year and just beginning to get established and as more people awake to blu-ray and see blu-ray becoming common place in pc and the huge amounts of data it can hold, the kids will be asking for a PS3 for the next couple of xmas.

    things will be reversed though wont they when the next xbox comes out probably 2 years before the next playstation. then people will be saying the new xbox is for th future. both consoles will be successful for their lifespans. people go on about how successful blu ray is but i dont know anyone that owns one as well as i also dont know anyone who owns a hd dvd player. it would be silly for anyone to commit to one or the other before it is definitely clear which one has won.
    ps no-one buys a console to watch movies.
  • i think we'll see Blu-Ray dominate in Europe and N.America and HDDVD be the main player in Asia.

    Either way, there is no need to worry about either format becoming obsolete within the next 3-5 years, there is too much weight behind each one.

    I'd say go for the PS3, the price drops make it a really good console for the price, it's quieter for watching movies (the 360 is a hoover apparently) and I've always liked the "playsation" over the likes of Nintendo, Sega and Xbox so i feel happier using 'that' shaped controller etc

  • I love these debates, each year it's a new one

    Apple v Windows;
    Linux v windows;
    ATI v Nvidia;
    Intel v AMD;
    X Box v PS3,
    VHS v betamax.

    The name changes, but the arguments are just as vociferous, with both camps totally and utterly behind their chosen format.

    At the end of the day, it is a debate that really has no winners or losers, except the manufacturers of these products who get more than their money's worth of free publicity.
