Surely the trousers must be individually priced in the shop - why didn't your wife notice the price when she placed the order?

You would of thought so, and whilst I was in today I had a quick look but there's nothing.

I thought that would be reasonable, she altered the blazer for £3, so 5x3 =£15 then 5 pairs for £22.50

Asda/Aldi do 5 pairs for 15 so assumed this was reasonable.

Uniform shops are MUCH more expensive than ASDA!!!

Is this your first time buying uniform??

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

In which case, this information would have been helpful...

If they were £5/pair last year, and £17.50 a pair this year, and no label on individual pairs showing the price, then you have reasonable grounds to refuse them over the pricing being unclear.

That is a HUGE increase. Take the receipt from last year and argue it out.

    Are they different trousers?

    Thanks A lot Pinkshoes.

No, they are different trousers, on the basis of my lad going through a growth spurt. However, whilst I do appreciate that 17.50 is way too cheap for 5 pairs. I am prepared to pay but not to the extent she is charging. I assume, I have no legal contract to continue with the purchase should she insist?

Where do you stand? In my view, and given your account of the dealings to date, they cannot force you to complete the purchase. Nor can they hold your blazer hostage!

If you don't like their pricing, retrieve your blazer and get it altered, and the trousers bought and altered, somewhere else.
  • As far as can make out. OP bought 5 pairs of trousers at 17.50 each and the had them altered at £2.20 per pair + £3 for the blazer repair = £101.50.

    Which all sounds very reasonable.

Now if it said each and/or total I'd agree.
It doesn't and this is my entire point.
Yes 17.50 is clearly wrong, however IMO so is £101.50 especially without prior agreement.

Your problem is they have the blazer......do you have any sort of receipt that they took this for alteration?

May be a case of 'you must be mistaken sir'

Surely you didn't think all 5 pairs of trousers were £17.50, including alteration?

Did you pay for the trousers at the point of purchase, and there's only the alteration to pay for? Or did you still need to pay for the trousers anyway? If the latter, did you seriously think each pair of trousers was £3.50 including alteration? Seriously?
