A badminton racket is great for snails, I ping em over the road, very satisfying as not one of my sunflowers survived the first wave of snail attacks.0

just to say that Mods at planteria.com had not been set up to be able to delete posts, so spam on the site does not reflect on them.
"Might be a good idea if you stood down as a Mod". i dont really understand why anyone on MSE would need to be suggesting that someone does / doesnt stand down as anything on planteria.com
but all i can say, again, is that everyone is welcome there. and all of the forums for garden advice are spam free (or are made so every 24hours or so, if they're not).
but also add that im a busy bloke who's trying to manage several projects and challenges at the moment, and though i realise it is my responsibility to improve and clean up the site (which is happening) i really dont need the hassle im getting about it at the moment.
if certain people want to bicker, then i cant stop them, but please just leave me out of it.
thanks:beer:.0 -
Eat them, collect them up. Keep them in a box for a day or two with some lettuce or summet. Then drop em in boiling water for a minute or two. Pick em like a winkle, then fry them in butter with a little garlic. DeliciousQuotes in context only please.0

The trouble with putting (live) snails on the bird table is that they will simply all crawl away. They are territorial - throw them over your neighbour's fence and they will find their way back home (you can test this by putting a dot of tippex on their shells and see which ones come back). Best way is to kill them - my husband has found out that vinegar will kill them but, like salt, watch your plants as it will kill them as well.0

I don't like killing things, so we attract slugs and snails by leaving lettuce leaves around, then collect them up and relocate them to a little piece of greenspace at the end of the street (overgrown with nettles). I noticed yesterday several of them had little party hats on and were having a grand old time.I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.0

I have great fun every morning rounding up the snails and throwing them onto the lawn for the thrushes to come and feed on. Just make sure there's a stone or hard surface nearby for them to bash the shells on to get to the juicy flesh inside
You have thrushes!
I cannot remember the last time I saw or heard one!0 -
We get thrushes in our garden now and again.
The man next door has a big tree with lots of berries on it. A family of blackbirds live in it, and they think they own our garden and chase away all the other birds who come looking for dropped berries.
Who needs the TV when you can watch "bird wars"Here I go again on my own....0 -
I picked 37 snails off one plant trough the other night, they had devoured the new plants put in the night before.I had put down pellets but I have only found 1 dead snail. It's come down to snail and slug hunts after dusk.It seems to be the only way to keep the numbers down.0
