Went down to the allotment the other day, and found a snail about 8 inches up my runner beans - how on earth did it get up there ?

Needless to say, he was quickly removed :D
They can get everywhere its moist. I used to live in a basement flat and could regularly see slug/snail trails up to to 3rd floor.

Didn't you know they can fly....they certainly do in my garden. Everytime I see one of the little blighters my neighbours see them flying...just after they leave my hands or feet or spade!!!

    Bon voyage monsieur le mucous!

Apparently snails and slugs dislike coffee. So mulch with coffee grounds or water with dilute instant coffee until you can drink/collect enough grounds.

The added bonus is that squirrels also hate coffee grounds as well!
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Where can I get these copper bands from and are they expensive. My main concern is really my plants in the greenhouse and one they have sprouted in one of the spare rooms and plant them up and then they go into the greenhouse so obviously some of the seedlings can still be quite tiny. I don't fancy the idea of doing the edges of every single pot.

Olly300, do you mean put coffee grounds around the plants in pots? We occasionaly drink perculated and espresso coffee so I'm sure I could encourage my husband to drink more to get the grounds.
    Did owe £9,951.96

My allotment is overrun with snails and slugs, I have the pellets down but I will definately give the coffee a go, I have a cup of fresh every orning and always tip it out into the bin, often thinking that it must surely be good for some form of recycling.

Thanks for the tip!!!! I think I will sprinkle some in when I plant out the seedlings & mix into the compostor.
